The whole sports thing has been a real revelation for me.

I have been an avid NFL, NBA, and most of all LSU fan my whole life. Many of my greatest memories are going to LSU games on a fall Saturday. However it’s long last time for me to grow up.
I’m 36 years old. Well over halfway to 60. Why am I still holding on to things of childhood? I have a successful career. Why am I sitting on my couch worried about how a team of 20 year old kids are going to push a ball over a line against another group of kids?
Why do I pretend this team actually represents my school? Many of them would not be in school if not for the fact that they are athletes, and their college experience reflects almost none of mine.
Furthermore I fear that I am contributing to the idea that the only way for black people to elevate themselves is to play sports.
I should be so much better at so many things than I am currently. I should be a better husband. My house should look better. My yard should look better. I should be in better shape. I should hunt more. Fish more. Be better at golf.
I have wasted way too much time watching other people compete in athletics for no reason.
I am done with sports, but I’m not going away with hostility. I am going away with my eyes opened that it’s really a massive waste of your life to spend it paying to watch other people live their life. Especially when those people use that money to espouse an agenda you disagree with.

Can’t disagree. Fortunately people like us are going out on a high note with the last sport of mention was an LSU title.
Haven’t watched a lick of espn nor the nba playoffs

I can give up pro sports
I just can’t give up LSU athletics
Best of luck to you though. It won’t be easy for you

Who did you go to games with? Many of us went with family and friends. For me, it was my parents and many aunt's, uncles, and cousins. Now, as I, and many of my friends have kids, it's our opportunity to pass that great experience down to the next generation.
How much of that list of personal improvements did you do during the 3 plus months where there were no sports?

“Sports are the opiate of the masses.”
That statement becomes more true everyday.

Take the extra time for yourself, friends, family, community, etc.
- learn a new skill
- read
- grow some food
- raise some animals for food
- get a pet
- spend time with family members
- drink beer that isn't an AB product
- teach people skills or knowledge
- improve your house
- improve your yard
- improve yourself
whatever...you turn it off for a few weeks or months you probably won't even miss it.
These schools are not really even a joke anymore, to me they are dangerous.

I was thinking about this earlier. It’s basically modern day slavery.
We should make college sports white only. Black people do not exist solely for white entertainment.

Don't need to waste my time cheering on a team that is openly pushing political activism and ideology that does not align with my own, or for that matter, the majority of the fan base.
I had hoped that after they lit up TS for George Floyd, LSU would settle back down and focus on football instead of Karenism...
Bit nope. They doubled down and went full retard.
I'm still an LSU fan but I'm not wasting my time and money supporting them until they become apolitical again. Wait too long, and I'll be done with them permanently just like I am the Saints.

That makes CNN and Fox News crack-cocaine

It’s incredibly easy. When you take the time to do anything else you realize what a waste of
Time sitting drunk in front of the tv really is. Sorry if that’s an unthinkable life for you

100 agree. One thing this quarantine has taught me is I have plenty of things to do with my free time and I really don’t need sports. This is the first time I’ve ever joined the boycott crowd. What really pushed me is seeing what they turned Drew Brees into over literally nothing. I hope the NFL starts up this year and they go full retard like the NBA and MLB. I’ll watch the occasional golf tournament but that’s it.

Just like it’s ok to be white. It’s ok to be a man
It’s ok to like sports
Sports are a true meritocracy. Probably one of the few things in the world like this
The politics have taken the fun out of it. But when stadiums get full, this nonsense will go away
And the one thing about sports is that people, think it’s just there for their entertainment
It’s also there for the people, that play. Sports are healthy. And fun. Things we need

I like it for the betting aspect. That’ll be the only thing I’ll miss of it.

If it wasn't for sports, we'd have a lot more tall janitors and felons.

That’s where I am at. Two years ago with the kneeling shite I didn’t stop watching the saints but I quit watching every other game and only moderately followed them. The shite this year I have quit the pelicans, nba, nfl, mlb, and actively am pulling against the saints.
I have been a State fan my whole life but they will be next. I got an awesome family, some extra beach time and more hunting time.
For the record I am a ticket holder for both state and saints and used Covid to get my money back for both.
