You're doing the right thing by not chancing it. Truly sucks and you'll never know if it was even necessary but if you risked it and did pass it onto them the guilt you would feel might be insurmountable.

You probably don't smoke. Cigarettes that is. They cost like $25 a pack on the North Island and they can't display them, so as an "Ugly American", going into the store, you have to guess. Do you have Winston? No. Do you have Marlboro? No. It is crazy trying to figure out. My oldest son lives there and we went to visit for a couple weeks.

Thanks for the sincere response.

My clinical intuition tells me my parents would probably survive as they’re neither obese nor AA, but they’re >80.

My dad could still probably whip my arse. He goes out and mows the grass in summer heat with a push mower. But the chance I could be the reason I kill him is always on my mind. He’s in good shape but he is over 80, he could have a heart attack and fall over dead and then I’d regret being too afraid of this Chinese virus to visit him.

A strange game.. the only winning move is not to play.

Thanks for what you do.
I would not want your job.

Hopefully things will get better.
How long do you think this virus be around?
I'm afraid it will be a couple of years at the least.

I allowed a serious error through. The patient ended up going into torsades from a somewhat obvious interaction.

The patient probably won’t survive. Before covid, I know I would t have missed that. On some levels I feel like I’m starting to lose it.

Clinically it will be over in a few months.

Practically it won’t be over till there’s a vaccine and politics allow the country to open back up.

And you know what, I’ll take it a step further. I don’t get the lifetime gibs me dats that comes along with soldiers who actually go to war.

And I would guess that you’re also compensated one helluva lot better.

Sure. Where is my GI bill and lifetime pension after 20 years?

Where’s your 12 month deployment, getting shot at, missing your kid’s birthday for $30k per year? I have zero problem with your venting but you sound like a dumbass comparing yourself to a warfighter.

I’m not the one saying it’s the same concept as military service.

But I’ll take your analogy.

Is there a difference in being deployed for 6 months and isolating yourself from your family for 6 months because you don’t want to kill them?

At least the military guy isn’t responsible for their own decision.

Yet you support and vote for the people that do the opposite of what you want. Reminds me of many of the black guys that I have worked with over the years. They support everything I support when we talk about ideology. Lower taxes, rights etc. Yet they always voted for democrats, 100%.

It is a special kind of stupid to actively support those that want you dead. Yes, I realize you don't believe they want you dead. I am going by what they do and not the lies they told you.

It will become mostly background noise. It will still be around but not to the point we have to be paralyzed in certain decision making capacities.

The fact you think this is a microcosm of why this country is going to shite.

I voted for trump. Tell me what you think about that.

You're not going home at night? I know several people in health care, and they all go home at night, have supper, sex, etc. Yeah, there's a difference. Just stop.
