The UK Social Media Ban

I'm as conservative as they come, so keep the "you're a liberal commie" remarks to yourself.
I'm trying to get rid of any possible bs.
I f'ing hate it when their side puts out bullshite (and they push a lot of bullshite), and I don't want our side to push bullshite.
I started looking into the UK ban on social media for children under 16.
We seemingly heard the only platform that will be available to them would be BlueSky... the far left social media platform. This all sounded like a complete govt conditioning tactic.
After googling, here are some of the details (according to google and a couple of articles)
Did the UK ban BlueSky for children under 16?
also:
Allowed social media platforms:
I don't know anything really about WhatsApp or Signal.
The UK apparently went a little further on their bans than Australia did.
Yes, censoring social media is a hugely controversial debate.
How do you feel about this ban now with, hopefully, accurate information?
Can you imagine this happening here?
How do you even enforce this? Can't the kids just piggyback off a parent's account and never get caught?

Yes, the UK is moving to restrict access to Bluesky and other major social media platforms for children under 16, with the sweeping "Australia-style" legislation slated to take full effect by spring 2027.
The UK government's newly proposed plan includes key details that impact both teens and platforms:
Inclusion of Bluesky: Following public consultation, the UK Technology Secretary confirmed that Bluesky falls under the government's regulatory definition of a "user-to-user platform whose purpose is to enable social interaction," meaning under-16s will be banned from using it.

The ban will apply to major networks like TikTok, Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), and YouTube.
Allowed social media platforms:

Exemptions: Platforms used for education or messaging, such as WhatsApp, Signal, and YouTube Kids, will remain accessible.

Hasn't the US discussed banning TikTok here?
Seems most people would be behind that one.

most all creators of social media admit how evil it really is(watch the social dilemna) because they know it would be used in the wrong way and how they prey on children and it has been used for mass disinformation and BS.
frick Ur FreEdOms!
personally i wish it was never invented. email, text or use a website to share garbage. policing that is enough as is.

The government should not be in the business of censoring things like this. If a parent wants to ban sites from their children, they are capable of doing so without Big Brother’s help.

Everyone will be banned until proof of age is verified.

I know it's different, but what about having the age verification for porn sites in the US now?
Good or bad?
What is the primary reason for a social media ban for children under 16? What does it try to accomplish exactly?
There's millions of hours of good content on youtube.
Is this about govts simply controlling the narrative or content for children for political purposes? But that only works on the children. Adults aren't banned from anything.
Youtube already has a different acknowledgement signin for certain content.

I don’t believe the government should be involved in this either.

With 3 teenage daughters, I support no social media until 16. We are already some of the strictest parents at our kids school by not allowing them a phone until 8th grade and no social media until they earn it with 9th grade being the earliest.
They have friends that have had total access to social media since the 5th grade and its ridiculous.

Nothing should be censored.
R-rated movies?
Tranny storytelling hour at the library?
Kids books about anal sex in the school library?

Honeybadger gets it.
My daughters are in a similar boat. They realize how addictive it is, like a bullet train to depression and bullying, kills their self image and ratchets up peer pressure and dirty trolls that hide behind a username.
Luckily they've seen it ruin some of their classmates so they aren't itching to join up.
I know it's hard for us on tigerdroppings to understand how unhinged classless a keyboard warrior could be, but imagine being a middle schooler and receiving those pot shots. If you love your kids, you'll delay that crap funnel as long as you humanly can.

But they can still get dragged into it at school or with friends. That's why I'm not opposed to the Ban concept.
