His ancestors lived in the Seventh Ward and were of mixed race, I.e., Creole.

George Herriman created the klassik komik strip Krazy Kat

His family left NO for L.A, in the 1890s where they could pass for white

I don't know if this was widely known during his life (he died in 1944)

I thought the one drop rule was something only white racists subscribed to? Good to know blacks don't consider that racism anymore.

Creole and mixed race aren’t the same thing. The term creole isn’t a racial thing.

It used to be the law in the South.

The Creole thing is debated among some people, iIn N.O. The term came to be used for people of French, Caribbean and African ancestry. The Charbonnets and Morials are of Creole descent whether they acknowledge it or not.

Creole includes all of the following: Whites of French descent, whites of Spanish descent, mixed race people included in the above and free people of color who identified culturally as French or Spanish.

I’ve seen nothing verifying this. The only thing I’ve seen is articles claiming he’s Creole. The Facebook group New Orleans Italians has a post showing actual birth/death dates of some of his ancestors that point to Italian, French, and Spanish ancestry. There’s articles in Italian language newspapers saying he’s part Italian and I found an article out of Aboylles saying he’s Italian and French.

Might have to be a group member to see the post New Orleans Italians

Yep, the Spanish used the term to distinguish between Spaniards born in colonies vs. Spaniards born in Spain.

Why does sunny judge people by the color of their skin and not the content of their character?

There is only one way to settle this. Pope Robert has to get on TV and say "the N word". The response will tell us his true color.

I'm saying that if Pope Leo went to Louisiana up until he was about 30, he would have been legally black.

His grandparents were white-passing in Chicago but not in New Orleans.

People in New Orleans would have known their parents and known that there was a black persona in the lineage.

The only two cities where Cabbage Ball is played are Chicago and New Orleans. I wonder if the holy father’s grandparents are responsible for that.
