I wonder how long it’ll take for folks to wake up and direct their ire at the billionaires who have drained the wealth from the middle class, rather than poor who do take more than they give back, but nothing compared to the rich (SNAP is 1.8% of federal spending)

so poor people shouldn't have cell phones? that should help them improve their situation. truth is it's easy to get a free phone from lots of providers and plenty of poor folks play the game where it gets turned off regularly for non-payment.
and tvs are cheap. i don't care if a guy can watch some magnum pi in the evening, good for him. just because you're poor doesn't mean you have to live like a prisoner (who also have tvs and sometimes cell phones)
the desire this place has to see others suffer is weird

4K TVs can be purchased for $350. That is the same, adjusting for inflation, that we paid for a portable black and white back with a 12 inch screen in the 70s.
What point is it you thought you were making?

You can get one cheaper than that if it's not a big one

Modern TVs have come down in price so much that it's not a luxury item worth mentioning in the OP?

So the concept of poverty is a state in which the RICHEST person in the world could not buy 30 years ago what the "impoverished" own today?

Does that not occur conceptually?

That’s the point.

OP wants us to reflexively look down on poor people. It’s conflict and division porn. Life is too short.

in 1933 the poorest people in the country wore drape cut suits while standing in line for free groceries.

Similar. Three room shotgun shack, one cold water faucet in the kitchen, and an outhouse. Luxury was a used, ten-inch oscillating fan. Back then, kids knew better than to stick their hand in the thing.

No, the point is that people that require assistance should not be spending their money on smart phones and big screen tv’s. They should be using their mail box money to feed, clothe and provide shelter for themselves and their family.

We look reflexively down on poor people because they buy non-necessity items and then bitch about people calling them out about it. Unfortunately the welfare class look at mail box money as a right rather than a ladder.

No one wants to see anyone suffer, people do that to themselves. What people want to see is people working for what they are given, not given what they think they are owed.

If "most just did that" you wouldn't have 40M people on the dole.
