Parents ban and censor fairy tales
quote:

Parents are changing the plots of classic fairytales when reading them aloud because of violence and political incorrectness, a new survey has found.

quote:

While these classic tales might seem playful and innocent on the surface, a closer look at the plot lines and characters reveals some problematic traits. For example, in Little Red Riding Hood, the child is eaten alive by a wolf, only to be saved by a hunter who cuts her out of the animal’s stomach with an axe.

The Three Little Pigs also reaches a rather gory conclusion, with the pigs murdering a wolf and eating it. Lest we forget The Gingerbread Man, whose protagonist is also eaten by a fox. Biscuit or not, it’s an ending that’s hard for parents to swallow, with one in three labelling it as “too cruel” in the survey.

One in four parents found it inappropriate that Cinderella has to do all of the cleaning in her home while another 25 per cent argued that Sleeping Beauty poses a consent issue, given that Prince Charming kisses the princess while she is asleep.

I fear every day when I kiss my girlfriends forehead before leaving for work, that she will leave me for kissing without permission

Those stories are pretty violent but this is nothing new. I remember schools banning or censoring Huck Finn. Something about his friend Jim.

I mean, read the children’s books that reflect the values you want to help instill in your children. Some of the old stories are definitely super weird- I’m sure some of the new ones are too.

I wonder how many parents are good with ultra violent fairy tales but screech in favor of banning Harry Potter

Parents, read what you want to your kids and don't what you don't. No one cares. This bullshite isn't newsworthy.

I agree, I just hope the choice to do or not remains available in the future.

You can't buy a new release of Song of the South.

Little Red Riding Hood got eaten by the wolf..?

The Three little pigs murdered and ate the wolf...?

I don't remember those endings... That would've been awesome...

You can't buy Song of the South because our moronic copyright paradigm will allow Disney to bury it until long after no one gives a shite anymore.

Fortunately, fairy tales are beyond the cold, deathly grip of copyright law.

They should read Anne Rice's version.

But this is actually nothing new. These stories were Disneyized long ago. The medievel versions were downright gory.

Is it just the thing to be offended?

Are folks really such pussies or is this fake outrage?

Little Black Sambo is about an Indian (subcontinent) kid. Ever notice the fricking tigers?

The later illustrated copies, like the one you posted, are horrifying minstrel caricatures. Disliking them is no more PC than saying that it's not particularly cool to have blackface minstrel shows.

Also, as far as I can tell, they aren't copyrighted anymore. Feel free to scrape up some change and publish one

This is why the kids of this generation can't handle the cold, hard reality of what this world is going to do to them... chew them up and spit them out, if they're that lucky.

MS13 and MC Clubs like Bandidos and Outlaws, the Bloods and Crips... these MF'ers will straight kill you for looking at them wrong or being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Yet trying to educate our kids on where not to be and what not to do? Yeah, let's worry instead about the multitude of reasons that there wasn't a safety net to catch dumbass Humpty Dumpty who sat on a wall knowing damn well what was coming to him...
