Didn’t it take a month for crimea?

Hard to say. There are so many conflicting reports.

On the one hand: genuinely credible reports of Russian desertion, low morale, incompetence.

On the other hand: air superiority, steady gains, progress towards objectives.

Believe one set of reports and Russia is about to get pushed out. Believe another set of reports and it could be over tomorrow.

Not sure why this is so unbelievable. Half the Russian forces don't even know where they're going and they're talking on some walkie talkies from 1993.

Because they'd have battle plans in digital format, not on paper. I mean it's pretty ridiculous to think. Is this the early 1900s?

Putin ordered the kremlin to return to paper after a computer hack 10+ years ago.

So no - it’s completely realistic to have paper sensitive documents there. You can’t hack what’s not digital.

The spring muddy season in Ukraine and Russia will begin very shortly. Off road movement will become almost impossible and all roads not paved with hard-top concrete or asphalt will be unusable.

I do not believe that there are many hard top paved roads in Ukraine.

This muddy season affects even Muscovites, because not even every road in greater Moscow is paved with hard top.

Igor Girkin was GRU (?) and led the militia in the Donbas in the 2014 war.

If he’s posting it, he believes the plans are real.

*He was eventually shelved by Moscow, they wanted a Ukrainian leading the militia for political reasons.

Gosh we still fly with paper ATO/ACO every sortie, poor USAF must be way behind the curve.

So the massing on the border months prior was largely devoid of personnel and mainly materiel?

This works when looking at the greater context of their outpacing their supply lines, the Russian soldier's texts with his mother, etc.

This would explain the seeming confusion and many instances where there was an obvious lack of planning (not targeting power and communications at the very start, for instance).

I'm not real sure on this one. It seems like there were a decent amount of troops along the border with all of that equipment, but the man power went up significantly those last couple weeks. I'll have to look back and see what kind of numbers were estimated initially when the build up started.

Not sure if this has been verified yet but Rubio mentioned these yesterday. Russia still struggling to find those remaining air defense systems

That tweet about the Russians crying during Kharkhiv...

That really hit me. I can't even imagine, especially since there are so many friends/families on each side of the conflict.

This is basically like watching a USSR civil war of sorts.

Yeah, that's because the "system" is some crazy Yahoo with a shoulder-mounted weapon.

The Russians are being fought by individuals, running through a field with shoulder mounted weapons.

Oh, and there are thousands and thousands of those shoulder-mounted weapons still in Ukraine. NATO/EU countries pledged to keep sending them.

Sounds like they got some more today too. Not sure they can still get them to places like Kharkiv though, but hopefully.

Around 700k Ukrainians left Ukraine for Russia in the 2014 war, according to the Russians.
