At some point this has to slow down right. At this pace they're gonna run out of people quickly

Huh? I don't believe those numbers. It's comical at thid point. They're killing off thousands between updates somehow.

At this rate the Ruskies will have as many dead in a month as we did for the entirety of the Vietnam War.

There would be bodies and body parts all over the place. There had to be at least 1 person in the room that would have spoken up and said "hey guys don't you think that's a bit much" while concocting this shite.

Its about a thousand a day, seeming to slack off a little; yesterday the pace was about 1,100. Mind, a huge amount of these are going to be estimates. That said, its only an attrition rate of about 5% over 5 days; keep in mind estimates of Russian forces in all of Ukraine, including previously occupied friendly Russian client states was only between 180K and 200K. And they're bringing Belarussian units now as well-- not that Belarus is going to suddenly drop a bonus 50K, but a thousand here or there can offset those losses in the short to intermediate term.

Ukraine is likely experiencing at least the same level of casualties, without the prospect of much re-enforcement. The arming of the civilian populace has a limit-- the level of motivation of said soldiers can rapidly decline, as might their effectiveness. Likewise, heavy urban combat can make it worse, if the Ukrainian irregulars are motivated and stay motivated.

On the plus side for the Russians-- its not enough to stop them per sey, and the losses can be somewhat offset. On the plus side for the Ukrainians, they're getting equipment deliveries from outside sources already-- Lithuanian and Polish logistical support have already started to be delivered. They are going to run short on resources, without broader committments-- it will be interesting to see how much foot dragging comes in the lastest Western 'committments' of equipment to Ukraine.

The Ukrainian state could still easily fold up in 48 hours; likewise, the more it drags, the harder it becomes to sustain momentum and attrition for the invading Russians, especially if the Ukrainians remain highly motivated and supported from without.

Quite honestly, dumb shite like that is what’s going to pull everyone into this. When you start tossing around the word nukes, it simply makes you much bigger threat and forces more countries to come together to neutralize you.

Maybe the U.S. should have quit fricking around, I don’t know like 10 years ago

Not everyone, just the U.S. NATO/EU does what the U.S. says and it will be to their detriment

These people just don't understand how ugly this could turn out for Ukraine.

The hubris mixed with a total lack of understanding of the ways the world works is just insufferable.

Those men are hardened killers and some of the most brutal fighters in the world. They fight total war and even if they lose everyone in their sector civilian or otherwise is going to wish they hadn’t gotten off the plane.

The twitter crowd sitting in their city coffee shop can’t even fathom the type of war those men know. They’ve never experienced a world of unconstrained violence and while we should all be thankful to have lived such sheltered lives here it’s very telling to see how nonchalantly they brush aside what is likely a harbinger of a change in ROE by the Russian leadership.

I guess it’s human nature to have to learn things first hand, but social media is just the worst.

If those numbers are anywhere near correct, then the Russians have already lost more soldiers than the US did during all the years we were in Iraq.
