No, you leftists are using the false narrative that she didn't actually hit him, only came close, and therefore use of deadly force was excessive.
So let's assume that falsehood is true- she never struck him.
So we can apply your leftist rule- since she didn't hit him and only came close his defesnse was not needed.
So here's my 'field test' using the left's narrative and see if it works if the shoe was on the other foot:
Walk up to an agitator posing as a protester. Pull a large caliber revolver out, point it at her forehead. Do not fire, do not touch her. Put the muzzle of the barrell ever so close, but not touching.
If she runs, fine. If she just stands there, fine. If she or any other person there touches me in the slightest they should be arrested for assault upon me because I never fired the revolver nor did I even touch them.
That's the rule your left is stating here. Let's reverse the situation and see if it is a rule seated in reality. If you say I can't point that loaded gun at one of your comrades and expect to that to be protected as a form of free protest and free speech then y'all need to STFU about 'she didn't hit him' falsehood.
Oh, and this isn't even applying the Babbit Rule. This is a new one.

He was walking/standing in front of a standstill vehicle, executing his duties. The driver turned it into a "moving car" when she decided to punch it.
