My company has 2 Indian employees. Both have integrated well into American culture, embraced America as home, and are doing well. Those 2 are the exception and not the rule. It's a shame.

I don’t know how this will play out, but it could backfire. Look at all the companies that have opened technology centers in India. Oil and gas companies have been doing this the last few years and Chevron is building a multi-billion dollar facility now that will have 1000+ jobs. Those are not extra jobs to what they have now, those are jobs that are moving from the US to India.
I do agree we need to have some control in visas, and they have hurt US citizen base, but in a global economy companies will adapt.

Which they were already doing anyway. Will they do a whole lot more? I doubt it.

quote:Just yesterday I chatted with a live Indian online after telling the bot that only a live person could understand my specific request. This was fricking Merrill God Damned Lynch.
After recently spending 3 hours on the phone with someone from AT&T I couldn’t understand…I don’t feel sorry.
At one point I just flat out told her that her command of the English language was much less than she imagined herself to be capable of and to move the call to someone of US birth who can speak and understand what I needed to discuss. I waited, and she let me know that she was texting me a number to confirm and that someone would call me
Five minutes later and "it's Steven from Merrill Lynch customer service calling from Atlanta, GA. How can I help you."
They need to fix this shite. It's like we don't have a country when you can't speak to an ordinary American about your American banking and investments.

Are they building up their immune system or looking for a partner?

This I can get behind. Bring back shitty manufacturing jobs nobody wants was not good.
Bringing back white color jobs.
Yes.
More of this

That’s fine. Have the interior dept pull their Gulf of America leases that aren’t yet developed. They’ll change their tune.

LinkedIn might be the most insufferable social media platform.
But where else are you going to go if you want to find consensus driven synergy in a collaborative environment?

When people see the mass layoffs in tech, they aren't going to declare or let their kids major in CS. And if you were being honest as a SME in tech recruiting, you'd admit that those layoffs are always immediately back-filled with cheaper H1-Bs.

They call us stupid Americans. I can confirm.
Yes, this is true. They hate us behind our back. The indians probably pose the greatest threat to the folks that post here.
Especially those of us with kids about to enter the workforce. The Indians are keeping salaries artificially low and hurt our kids chances of getting their share of the American dream.
Again, it is the Indians we need to worry most about, not the Mexicans.

I’m 100% behind pushing out H1B, but the US needs to accelerate our programs and train up our own, quickly.
Its true, I'm so sick of these women in engineering programs, minorities in engineering etc...
Most of them have zero interest in it.
Your bread and butter is white and East Asian males.
There are more than enough of them to fill the needs if we just get them into college and train them.
If they had half the support Shanika had we would have a ton more engineers and devs.

They still suck at it.

You can’t just run a guy through a crash course on coding/engineering.
I do all the time, it typically takes me about 3 months to pick up a new software language for a project.
For new engineers it takes me 6 to 12 months before they can code decent if they want to, usually they have at least one language prior unless they are a straight math guy.
We can do it, it just takes effort.
