quote:

The Taliban and Al Qaeda are among the most vile, dangerous violent extremist organizations in the world. They pose a threat that must be taken very seriously and actively combatted. They do not, however, pose an existential threat to the United States or our way of life.

Trump and his supporters have, with support of one of America’s most dangerous enemies, actively sought to undermine democracy in America. The coup attempt on January 6th and the propagation of the Big Lie are an example of this. Their efforts to suppress the vote are an example of this.

Trump’s active obstruction of justice is an example of this. Should they succeed, democracy in America will be gutted, our way of life ended, our values undermined and our standing in the world destroyed. They may yet succeed. As a consequence, the threat they pose is far greater to the United States as a whole.

quote:

And that while the threat posed by foreign terrorists is real, it has been vastly overstated in the wake of 9/11. We should not have treated those terrorists as being analogous to prior international enemies of the modern era like the Nazis or the Soviets. They instead pose a more limited kind of risk than was presented, a risk that despite their rhetoric was not to our society or institutions broadly but was instead sporadic and opportunist. We are better off responding to them with specialized counter-terror measures, expanded intelligence capabilities, hardened assets and greater public-private coordination in the identification of, preparation for and reaction to threats.

quote:

Speaking of imminent threats, the rising daily COVID tolls driven by a Trumpist, partisan rejection of science is certainly one. The fact that Trump and his supporters, including many high GOP officials, are defending the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, continuing to perpetuate their lies about the fairness of the last election, and actively working to try to rig future elections all drive home the point that the threat from the former president has not receded.

For these reasons, it is irrefutable that Trump and many of the people seeking to advance his agenda or claim it for themselves are poised to have a far greater negative impact on Americans and the country as a whole than foreign extremist groups.

Anyone still holding out hope we can live along side the left peacefully in America at this point?

Honestly?

These cocksuckers should get shipped off to Afghanistan to social work those weapons out of the arms of Taliban and report back to us how it works.

Yeah, frick them.

We've sat silent and peaceful long enough. In absentia lucis, Tenebrae vincunt.

I'm ready for the light of truth to start burning evil people to dust.

The writer keeps using United States and America when he means Democratic Party. The two are not synonymous.

The surveillance infrastructure that was created to identify and monitor terrorists after 9/11 will now be used to target "far-right domestic terrorist threats."

I question whether sites like this one will be able to function in the same capacity in 20 years, if at all.

That’s funny because I can say the same thing about progressives. Only difference is I’m basing my belief on facts that derive from our founding fathers including our constitution, they base their beliefs on changing why our founding fathers created the USA in the first place.

They’re wrong and there’s no denying it, they should hit the fricking door if they don’t like it.

These people are so out of touch with reality. Is there anyone on the planet who thinks that it's safer in Kabul with the Taliban, than, let's say, a Trump rally?

They think Trump voters are terrorists, white supremacists, mass shooters, nazis, violent, etc.

I hope everyone who upvoted that posts gets some of the new unvetted Afghans in their neighborhood.

Abso-fricking-lutely.

You take the sweetest dog and abuse him long enough, he will bite your balls off.

Not that we are sweet, or dogs, or would focus our bite to any balls. But you get my drift. A sharp edged weapon to separate the brain stem, common carotid, subclavian... A matter of moment(s).

Let’s see how this claim holds up once they figure out how many Taliban they imported during the rushed evacuation.

The funny thing is we keep hearing about the "horrors" of Jan 6 and every day that passes under this administration just proves more and more that the people on Jan 6 were right. Biden is the worst thing to happen to this country in decades and he never should have been sworn in.

The January 6 narrative is falling apart faster than a cheap suit. They must do everything in their power to keep it alive and attention away from Joe Biden. Nobody with functioning faculties believes what that guy wrote.
