The parents are going to have to either:

1. Opt those school board members out of their jobs, or

2. Opt out of these public schools

They're left with no 3rd option.

Its been happening for the last 30-40 yrs.
It's been becoming more prominent at time progressed. Not so different from the way Hamas teaches young Palestinian children to hate Jews and all infidels.

Comrade Cubbies. \

They did not send their son to a Christian College to be indoctrinated in Marxist shite. But you know that youre just being a bitch. Books with such a message don't belong in a class like that anyway.

A political science class for discussion, maybe. And not an entire list of propaganda like that. That professor has an obvious agenda.

If the poster is this afraid that his son might be exposed to ideas he does not approve of, he should not allow his son to go to college.

This type of helicopter parenting is why a generation of adults cannot navigate the world they occupy. They need to ask their parents what to think about everything. And then those same parents come on here and complain that no one thinks critically anymore.

You either haven't read any of those books or don't know what propaganda is. I wager you're guilty of both.

"Excerpt from Pedagogy of the Oppressed" is absolutely, 100% propaganda.

2 questions:

1. How do you define propaganda?

2. What literary works do not fit that definition?

ETA: if anyone actually read Pedagogy of the Oppressed, you'd probably agree with Freire's points about education.

Well, you probably wouldn't if you don't want people to be able to think for themselves.

It's stating or disseminating something to change someone's mind.

Most fiction. Too many to mention.

However when you're giving a guide to students on how to overthrow the U.S. government, that's a problem.

Which of those books acts as this guide?

Freire's book is about education. The word "pedagogy" is in the title, for crying out loud. Do we not know what pedagogy is?

My son is not in the business of politics. It would take years for him to understand what these professors intent is. I have another kid in college taking the same exact class and while it has some of this garbage it also has some balance and have not interfered. You’re crazy if you think an 18 year old non political kid can fight these people.
You’re an idiot.

What is the professor's intent and how do you know? English comp courses typically have students write essays in response to texts. What is the problem?

I am honestly shocked that you seem to be proud of micromanaging your adult sons college education. Why did you allow your kids to go to college? Clearly you can teach them everything you think they are allowed to know.

I'm crazy to believe anyone who posts here has actually read any of the books on that list that y'all are so up in arms about.

What is there to fight? Have you never read a book or essay you didn't agree with? How did you cope with that? My goodness. You want to insulate your kids from thoughts that aren't yours! That is indoctrination, friend.

You're handicapping your kids. You can call me all the names you want but I give my 8 year old son more independence than you give your adult sons.

They refuse to meet with me. They want to have these 18 year old kids without any debate.

Help your kids develop the skills they need to advocate for themselves. Encourage your kids to ask these questions of their professors. Help them build confidence to question people in positions of authority.

Sheltering them and circumventing them to gatekeep the literature they are exposed to in college isn't helping them.

My youngest son has autism. I will not let your kind destroy his life without a fight my friend. He basically wants to be a good kid. He believes his teachers have his best interest at heart. Just do me a favor and leave the kids alone. If they want to indoctrinate themselves like you later so be it but just let them have a normal education.

You giving parenting advise is the equivalent of a hooker preaching in a Baptist church.
