Neither of them are. You actually said one of them is acceptable. The ones you are arguing with believe like me that none of them should be acceptable in this day in time.

Not sure why you think that isn’t a solid position to take to think that type of insult shouldn’t be acceptable for anyone to use. Seems to be the most fair position to take and one not riddled with a double standard.

And who decides what context is acceptable?

Who decided that this is acceptable? And why is it?

So it's not racist to compare blacks to primates?

Because you're too stupid to understand historical context apparently

That’s pretty insulting as I’m the one being PROGRESSIVE wanting to move past the historical context.

You aren't being progressive

You're simply failing to acknowledge historical context

The reason why the Roseanna comment is a big issue is that there are STILL retrograde assholes using antiquated racial references to refer to blacks.

I knew a kid in high school that had a face just like a chimp. He was white. So you're saying it would be okay for me to make fun of him but if he were black then I'd be wrong to make fun of him?

So recognizing historical context only means that I should believe words used as an insult only should be offensive to one race in this day in time?

That makes little sense.

I don't condone bullying high school kids

Political figures in prominent positions do set themselves up to be objects of criticism and they know it comes with the territory. I don't think making fun of Trump for his fake tan is anywhere near the equivalent of comparing someone to a primate because of how they were born.

So for you it's not the context of the message that is the main theme of the discussion but the actual person making the statement of discussion?

Wrong

At what point did I say that it wasn't about context?

The left loved these too. This must be fair game also then.

You said earlier that society is way past the primate comparisons when, in reality, those type of comments are made fairly regularly here so its easy to see that you are confused.

The fact is that a grown man painting himself orange and rocking wild hair does bring to mind an orangutan. Whereas people inferring that black people are animals/apes has a long history connected closely to hanging people by their necks until they die.

That you cannot understand why those two things, while both potentially hurtful, might be viewed differently because of that historical context says that you(and the OP) are either retarded, racist or both.

You seem to be more argumentative about who is saying what more than what is being said.

I'm not sure where you would get that idea. Now if you were to say that it's important who it is being said about then you might have a point. The person(s) being criticized in this instance matter. Precisely because of historical context.

This isn't that difficult guys

I’m probably the least racist person in this thread.

I’ve condemened all the comparisons.
I have acknowledged the historical context
I also don’t think black people need my protection and I don’t feel I need to tell them what to be outraged about like you and the other white liberals.

Calling me racist is completely misguided.

Roseanne Barr started in standup comedy. Thus, she gets to use the "comedienne" excuse.

Sucks when your dogma gets used against you, doesn't it?

The hypocrisy is REAL.

The double standard is REAL.

Right leaning whites need to understand this reality in their everyday discourse.

No one said it was fair or just. It simply 'is'.
