I keep seeing the argument made by a few that this was Trump making a mistake.

Bolton was hired in 2018.

Here is the head line at the end of 2018:

North Korea launched no missiles in 2018.

This is the link to that headline from NBC

Part of that Story:

quote:

The drumbeat reached a peak in 2017, when Kim Jong Un's regime launched its first intercontinental ballistic missiles — theoretically capable of striking the United States mainland.

Then it all stopped.

Here is another headline:

In his second year, Donald Trump is building a more extreme, confrontational presidency

Trump Hires Bolton

Trump explains all of this in his interviews. Here is one from 2020:

The president commented during an interview with the Wall Street Journal:

quote:

The only thing I liked about Bolton was that everybody thought he was crazy. And frankly, when you walk into the room with him, you’re in a good negotiating position. Because they figure you’re going to war if John Bolton was there. He wanted to go to war with everybody. He never saw a war he didn’t like.

Using Bolton as some sort of a battering ram is nothing more than ignorance.

- Bolton talked Trump into no wars. YET IT WAS NOT FOR A LACK OF TRYING!

- Bolton served his purpose and was let go.

I agree, trump was not smart to do that.

frick John Bolton.

If he wants war so bad then he should send his children overseas to fight and die. Something tells me his kids would be exempt from the draft if we ever found ourselves in that position (probably because of actions by him and people like him)

Agree with that too.

Off topic, but I agree.

Served his purpose. Then was dismissed.

Just like several others. Rex Tillerson for example.

Not sure if I'm sure where you're coming down on this.

I'd say that showing up with your "muscle" (VERY loosely speaking in Bolton's case) is a really good negotiating position. You get the guy famous for wanting to go to war to intimidate your opponents so that you don't have to go to war.

And am I mis-remembering something, or wasn't Bolton on the weapons inspection team pre-invasion that opposed W's invasion of Iraq, despite being repeatedly kicked out by Hussein?

Mental gymnastics May Lou Retton couldn’t not have done in her prime.

Yet you can't refute the facts.

It's simply because you need it to be the way you want?

What did Bolton accomplish with Trump that you have a disagreement with?

Was Trump's policy to have a strong military so that you don't have to because people know what would happen.

Yeah that's what I'm trying to reconcile with his going against W, or if I just don't remember all the details from 20 years ago.

YEP! To do a job. Then sent him home.

It's really simple. You can not refute the facts and that's all you got.

Trump was (and still is) big on "keep your friends close and your enemies closer." Not saying he doesn't screw the pooch sometimes, but people that can't see this are just hopeless.

I think some of you might have completely lost touch with reality. Hiring Neocons is good because Trump was weak and needed muscle. A Neocon likes DeSantis is bad because globalism reeee.

Honestly it drives people away from Trump's side. Some of you sound like you're worshiping Kim Jong Un. I'm expecting a thread about Trump shooting a 52 yesterday at Doral any second.

Normal people are choosing the side that is grounded in reality. They see you guys pretending that every mistake Trump ever made was some sort of masterstroke of brilliance and they choose the group that doesn't seem like they're about to hand them a pamphlet on chem trails.

I guess you’re right. I only try to hire competent people, i don’t have to immediately dismiss, in my business. What an idiot I am.

Bolton going against W?

Are talking about the interview where Trump talks about it?

quote:

Trump said he could never understand why Bolton continued to defend the decision that the George W. Bush administration made to invade Iraq.

That's saying that Trump could not understand why Bolton continues to defend the Bush decisions on Iraq.
