Identity politics only exist because of the group and class distinctions that are prevalent in America. These distinctions were made to divide and conquer and have had disasters effects throughout our time. Yes we can move forward to rid ourselves of these distinctions but we have never truly done a good job of confronting them and and discussing them. What we did was humiliate people after being "atoned" for our sins and ignored the prevailing remnants of they old relics.
as much as conservatives want to selectively forget of our countries own injustices to its own, we cannot if we want to come together. It has colored the way some groups view their country and their experiences.
I agree, solutions for Americans should work for all. I just think its is very unrealistic, even 50 years after the civil rights act to push for colorblinness, mainly just because it doesn't depict reality. Republicans would serve themsevles well by acknowledging that. I believe many of their platforms would work well for many of these "identity" groups if they would be more cognizant of the realities some Americans face.
