While I probably would have done that back when I was in uniform, it's actually bad policy.

Secondary units won't have any clue where you've gone, what you've cleared, where you are, etc. At best they waste time doing what you've done; at worst you add to the chaos.

Then there's no way to really clear a room in either a dynamic or slow and methodical fashion with one person. As soon as you enter the room, you've taken your eyes off of the hallway. You can't hold the territory you own. In this approach, you own/control only what you presently have in front of you. The room you "cleared" 15 seconds ago can no longer be considered safe once you've taken eyes off of it.

That's the superiority of the 4-man cell - ESPECIALLY IN SCHOOLS. Most of the rooms look alike so it becomes wash/rinse/repeat.

Assume a 4-man stack along the wall with doors to the left. There are no windows at the door or in the door. 1st man moves beyond the door and holds at the door frame. Man 2 enters and has to make a decision based on what he sees in an instant - either button hook and proceed down the wall opposite of where they were just stacked or if the door is at the corner of the room, press down that side of the wall. Man 3 takes whatever path Man 2 did not. Man 4 holds on the other side of the frame as Man 1 holding rear cover. What we did (and it was a little cheesy) was Man 2 would shout out that his side was clear, Man 3 would then do the same, and they'd both shout "dominate" before filing out. So something like "LEFT SIDE CLEAR, RIGHT SIDE CLEAR, DOMINATE." Supposedly there are studies that show in an AS scenario, there's an intimidation benefit. I don't know. Then Men 2 and 3 would file out, reclaim their place in the stack and proceed down the hall. Usually Man 4 was a breacher, but in our AS drills we never used them in that fashion. He'd face the rear to keep ownership of the real estate while hanging on to Man 3's belt for a closed column. Man 1 holds front cover and proceeds to the next door, and so forth and so on. We also trained with a neighboring agency who would use Man 1 and 2 as entry, Man 3 became forward cover, and they'd rotate for each room.

It's a very shitty situation, and I'm not defending what was done or wasn't done. However, a Rambo approach is a poor idea, sorry to say.

These are 15 year old tactics, so I'm sure there's been improvements. But that's how we trained, and I think it's an effective approach. It can be done with 2 men, kind of...that's really more of a blow-and-go thing.

Either is superior to the Leroy Jenkins method.

Cops don't get paid enough to die and they can't count on their lives not being ruined if they go rogue, charge in and neutralize the threat. They've been neutered and many would turn on us in a heartbeat if given the order. I hope people wake up from their dream world and see it for what it really is and prepare accordingly. Someone with a gun nearby smokes this bitch before LE even arrives. That's how it's done. Just like the principal in Philadelphia, Mississippi a few years back. Hell, he didn't even have to shoot. Shooter laid down the weapon at the site of a gun.

So uh, did none of the cops on scene ask for the key to go in classroom in the 40 minutes/1 hour before they arrived?
