Many political parties/affiliations throughout history have fallen and been marginalized, never to return to their former glory.
In the U.S., the Whigs and Federalists come to mind. Dems are doing a great job of imploding right now, so I might expect a new party may rise that opposed Republicans but offers a more mainstream policy platform.

The fact is it's not 1859 anymore. We're a diversified nation with friends and family living in all corners of the US with many different political views. Most people have good friends that are both liberal and conservative, but still get along great. America was already great because we can be so diversified and still be united and I don't see that changing any time soon. Sorry about your war.

It will swing back eventually.
That being said, I think it swings a lot further right than otherwise because Barry screwed the pooch so badly in 2009-2010 and then weaponized the federal government in an attempt to target his opposition.
If he had let things go with their natural momentum, it would have swung right but not to this degree.
