The Catholic Church is growing in the US and worldwide. Every claim to the contrary is false.

There are a lot of issues with that, most significantly that the church considers tens of millions of people catholic who dont actually claim catholicism themselves. If you are baptized into the church, you are a catholic for life unless you actively request to no longer be claimed by the church.

The "growth" of the church is largely attributed to the fact that some of the words highest birth rates are in catholic dominated countries.

Surveys say that 88% of those between 18-30 are out of church, and 2/3 of them have no intentions of ever going.

As a youth pastor this hurts. That being said, I believe those numbers inflated. Reality is probably closer to 60% in the US.

Outside of the US the church is growing like wild fire, it's kind of amazing. In fact at this point the US has been labeled mission field.

For too long the American Church concentrated on the consequences of not following Jesus, rather than the blessings that are bestowed when you do. This I think is the biggest problem. When a generation has been raised to believe they do no wrong you have to attract them with love. Not the facts of their wrongdoing.

the thing is for a lot of people especially in south louisiana being Catholic is a cultural thing. You get your kids baptized because that is what everyone does, you get married in the Catholic Church because everyone does. How many places in the country could you go to and during lent, restaurants will have lenten specials. I'm sure it is more than just Louisiana but I'm sure it's not everywhere. It is a different issue when you get into people who go to mass every sunday, have a prayer life, actually believe what the Church teaches and so on and so forth.

At-least in terms of just pure numbers, two big problems the Catholic Church faces and many churches for that matter is that.

less and less people are going to mass

there is a large shortage of priests and religious.

go to a latin american country and you will be amazed how Catholic the culture is. In this country people are up in arms about there being a cross on the side of the road. In Guatemala (went on a mission trip there) they will process with statues of Jesus, Mary, Joseph, and other saints, shooting off fireworks, along with other things. It really is a sight to behold, but in latin american countries the Catholic Church is so deeply intertwined in the culture.

Note: you don't even have to go to latin america to see it, go to most Mexican restaurants and you will see an image of Our Lady of Guadeloupe

You and your "Catholic friends"[and Catholic Radio/EWTN] may very well save this heathen country. We'd better....have you noticed what BHO's pals are doing to Christians in Syria?

Catholicism is more appealing to many because the church doesnt deny science, doesnt advocate abstinence from alcohol and generally has a more structured form of worship.

People are really getting tired of American evangelicals and their schtick, though.

The Filet O Fish is one of the most awful things ever conceived by man, somewhere between sarin gas and Twitter.

Meh.
I could cite significant outside objections to every faith (obviously including yours).

As you say though, Catholicism has its appeal. Greek or Roman, there is extraordinary tradition, symbolism, and opportunity for belief.

You are.

You just haven't come to grips with the truth.

Much like easter I would expect tons of people to show up for a special "catholic" event. Much like the week after easter how many of those people continue to show up.

You know the answer as do I.

Symbolism and tradition is a shared and important quality amongst many religions. Catholicism (as a non-Catholic) is attractive that way.

I have long said the problem with Christianity is they are eager to hit you with the stick, rather then offer you the carrot.

It is the single biggest reason why many of my friends turned away from the church.
