I know the word "racist" is rapidly losing all meaning, but I think we can all agree that this act was probably the most racist you can get, barring genocide.

JASPER, Texas — A white man condemned for the 1998 dragging death of a black man in East Texas has been scheduled for execution next year.
John William King faces lethal injection April 24. District Judge Craig Mixson signed the execution order Friday
The U.S. Supreme Court in October denied an appeal for King, who claimed he had ineffective lawyers during his capital murder trial.
King was one of three white men convicted in the June 1998 death of James Byrd Jr. Byrd was chained to a pickup truck and dragged along a road near Jasper, about 125 miles (201.16 kilometers) northeast of Houston.
A second man convicted in Byrd's death has been executed. The third man is serving life in prison.

A hideous crime. Followed by a hideous Democrat Party radio ad.
I hope he dies badly.

Vaguely remember this happening and being in the Houston news 20 years ago. Remember two guys in the pickup, but not the third who is on life sentence. These scum did not deserve to live an extra 20 years.

The Grease Man had been pushing the envelope for quite a while. Most people expected him to get axed long before but the James Byrd joke is what finally did him in.

So the guy tried to drag up and they killed him? Must’ve been on a turnaround
Posted on 12/24/18 at 1:37 pm to blueboy
Why don't they just drag him (through some cactus) until he's dead?

That is a horrible thing to do. We had the same thing happen in my area a few years back but instead of racial motivation it was a domestic thing, some idiot drug his ex behind his truck which resulted in her death.
Some folks are just whacko man

I will neither mourn nor celebrate his death. He is of no value to the human race after what he and his buddies did to Mr. Byrd.

Democrat Demagoguery 101--Never waste a crisis:
Renee Mullins (voice over):
[b] I’m Renee Mullins, James Byrd’s daughter.
On June 7, 1998 in Texas my father was killed. He was beaten, chained, and then dragged 3 miles to his death, all because he was black.
So when Governor George W. Bush refused to support hate-crime legislation, it was like my father was killed all over again.
Call Governor George W. Bush and tell him to support hate-crime legislation.
We won’t be dragged away from our future.
Renee Mullins:
I’m Renee Mullins. My father was James Byrd, Jr.
I still have nightmares thinking about him, the day three men chained him behind their pickup truck and dragged him three miles over pavement.
I can see skin being torn away from his body.
I can hear him gasping for air.
I can feel the tears in his eyes, the struggle of his brain as images of his life painfully bang through his head as the links of a heavy chain clinched around his ankles dragging him bump by bump until he was decapitated. [pause]
On June 7, 1998 this happened to my father, all because he was black. I went to Governor George W. Bush and begged him to help pass a hate crimes bill.
He just told me no.
I'm doing this commercial to ask you to call Governor Bush at 512-X and tell him to introduce a hate crimes bill in Texas.
Let him know that our community won't be dragged down by hate crimes.

The Grease Man had been pushing the envelope for quite a while.
quote:Yeah, it definitely felt like an excuse for firing him, not a reason. It was very much like the firing of another former DC 101 legend, Don Imus.
Most people expected him to get axed long before but the James Byrd joke is what finally did him in.
Still, no crime is worth subjecting the people to fricking Elloitt in the Morning for 20 years.

The Greaseman, was working for WAPE, The Big APE, in Jacksonville, in the 80s doing their morning show.
There was convicted murderer named John Spenkelenk, that was about to take his last seat in Old Smokey,(The name given to the electric chair at Raiford Prison). Here is how he signed on that morning: Hey Spenkeleeenk...Hey SPenkeleeenk...(to the sound of bacon frying in the background) this is what you are going to sound like in a few minutes.

Will the liberals protest this execution? You either are against all or none.

Lethal injection is too merciful of a death. Crank up ole sparky or get the chamber ready.

The guys knew each other. If I remember right it was over a bad drug deal.

Briefly consider the inhumanity of what these guys did. And imagine that you belong to the same human race. Doesn’t even seem possible, does it ? Most of us look for opportunities to help our fellow man . Imagine the depth of that kind of cruelty and depravity. It boggles the mind.

quote:The perps got convicted for their heinous crime. Additional legislation was not required. It was just a feel-good knee-jerk. I said so at the time ... often.

Now, I look forward to the sentence.

I remember Democrats using Mr. Byrd's death as the catalyst for hate crimes legislation, and excoriated George Bush because he didn't support hate crimes laws. His response about Mr. Byrd's tragic death was "what more do want to happen to this guy. He's going to be executed."

When I first moved to DC in the late 80's, I thought he was the most annoying person I'd ever heard. He was definitely an acquired taste.
He was diagnosed with late stage cancer several years ago. DC 101 actually let him back on the air to do shows on Saturday mornings, basically until he could no longer do it.
