You can voluntarily come in to the Republic comprised of individual states, but you can’t voluntarily leave. Stupid argument.

Good post, Gideon. It is my understanding that Texas has already established their own gold reserves and state bullion repository. They also are currently capable of minting their own currency, since they already produce coins, although those coins are not yet legal tender.

So Texas is prepared to take over for air traffic controllers and TSA to keep your busy airports open. Prepared to purchase all of the VA hospitals and pay for the care of veterans? Gonna just let all federal prisoners out and shut down the prisons? That's just a thimble of how the federal government is intertwined in your state.

Not a Texan and not an advocate for secession but this is a very odd take

Were there no hospitals before the government???

Were there no airports- especially Dallas airports- before TSA??

Did Texas- home of the Rangers- lack the ability to catch and house criminals before the FBI??

Your post sounds like someone Who never lived before 9/11
I’m not trying to insult you but just read a little history on regional airports and the airline industry deregulation

Texas could reach purchase acquisition agreements for existing infrastructure to repay federal investment and their respective portion of federal debt.

From an economic perspective, Texas is more than capable of reimbursing the apportioned value of these elements.., and I would argue they would do a helluva lot better job of managing them

Would be interesting to see how long Texas could last with all roads and air travel blocked off to the U.S.

I would be more worried about oil and gas considering 42% of the nation's oil and almost 30% of the refining capacity comes from Texas..

If Texas pulls this off I see a few other states immediately inquiring about joining Texas.....Oklahoma, Missouri, Arkansas, Louisiana.

They will justify it by saying the Civil War resolved this question.

You do know there was a reason why the Federal government chose not to prosecute Jefferson Davis for charges of treason, right?

It won’t happen, but if it does, I say “Adios” and enjoy your isolation.

Do serious people honestly believe
That the South will secede from the Union again?
Personally, if we could cherry pick,
I can think of 2 or 3 southern states
that I would be happy to see leave.

Not the point. How many VA hospitals are in Texas? How many medical schools have clinical affiliations with VA hospitals? Do you think the federal government is just going to walk away from those gazzilion dollars facilities? How about air traffic control? Does Texas already have in place the software in place that the FAA has spent years developing? Might be out of date or whatever but you might could buy some from Mexico. Air traffic controllers for some of the world's busiest airports? What a 1 year shut down on those airports going to cost the republic? Texas is world famous for the medicine and research. Want to try to match the federal research dollars that pours into Houston, Galveston, Dallas, etc.? US going to grant all of the federal lands and military facilities located there? Whole thing is a pipe dream. But, I will move there under an alias if they can pull it off.

haha. How delusional do you have to be? I would bet every thing I own that you fail. You can't even keep state and local institutions, including your schools, from being taken over. Conservatives are pushovers. How you going to stand up to the federal government colluding with corporations and media to dump on you? Texas will be a blue state in 10 years, anyway.

When I was in school at A&M Texas had a Dem Governor, Dem Senate, Dem Leg, and the Congressional Delegation was overwhelmingly Dem. One Senator was Republican and only one other Statewide elected official (Ag Commissioner) was Republican. In '94 the vote split and the GOP won the Governor and some other races. In '98 it was a clean sweep. In 2002 the Cong delegation flipped. There have been no statewide elected Dems since '98 and the state has stayed solid Red.

It's also been the greatest economic boom by far in state history and one of the greatest in US history. Texas has gone from less than 17 million in 1990 to 30 million now. We have blown away New York as the 2nd largest state and economy and are on pace to surpass California in the next 20 years as they are in decline and we continue to grow. Texas would now be the 8th largest economy in the world after France, we are at $2.4 Trillion in GDP and continuing to grow at a healthy rate. For comparison Canada is $2.1 Trillion, Mexico is $1.8 Trillion. Eventually we will pass France and the UK and it likely won't be that long.

Texas is by far the best positioned state to actually break away. We have the natural resources and diverse economy and infrastructure. We even have our own power grid. We have gold but more importantly we have oil and oil is more important.

All Texas needs is a peaceable separation from the US with a NAFTA style trade agreement and a mutual defense agreement. It would be insane for the US not to agree to that as it is very much in their interests to do so. If that happens then Texas will absolutely explode economically. If you had a country of Texas' geography and demographics and resources and put in a low tax, business friendly government the investment would be insane. No reason to have an income tax either, the revenue off consumption taxes will be tremendous.

Where else would you want to start a business? A safe, English speaking country with an educated workforce with one of the best shipping infrastructures in the world and access to the US market? Damn.

Still a lot of mess to work through for sure. Lot of devil in the details. That said the backside is pretty mind boggling in terms of potential.
