Texas needs to annex Louisiana. Please??

I think if Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Kansas and Arkansas could go out together as one then they would be one of the most productive countries in the world. Arkansas is only needed as a resort area as Colorado and New Mexico are to liberal to be apart of this new nation. Oil/gas, farming/ranching, timber and ports are plentiful. It won't and shouldn't happen but it's nice to know these five states could go it alone. Possibly could add Nebraska and Mississippi as they are good fits as well.

The most appealing mix would actually be a country that extends from Alaska along the Eastern side of the Rockies down to New Orleans. Alberta and Saskatchewan are very conservative parts of Canada and are where the oil is, they have also been flirting with leaving in recent years. Pick up the Dakotas the productive farmland along the heartland and have control of the Mississippi.

A country like that would be conservative culturally with massive natural resources so they would be able to maintain a very low tax structure and business friendly climate. Use the Texas Constitution as a model, it's the most paranoid Anti Government document ever written.

That said Texas going alone would be the easier starting point. It's really more about making North America into something more like a European model which is closer to what we really are culturally. NY has little in common with Texas but we can still be on good terms, we just don't need to be governing each other. The Founders understood that with the Constitution but we have been ignoring it for some time. The only way the country works long term is through Federalism not a strong Central government.

The US would be very hesitant to give up the Mississippi Delta though, the fact you can move goods by water from the Great Lakes to the Gulf by water is one of the most significant natural advantages of the US. We effectively have port cities all over the middle of the country along the River and the Great Lakes. It's the most insanely blessed by geography point on the planet.

44% of left coast democrats are in favor of a divorce. Trying to recreate this as a parallel to 1861 is ignorant. The ideological chasm is too wide for reconciliation in the eyes of many - mine included.

Look at voting totals in South Texas over the last 20 years. It's been happening.

It would be easier to name the parts of the US that would stay.

Urban America - with far different values- is controlling the vast majority of the geographic footprint of the nation.

You are assuming that members of the military would violate their oath and take up arms against texas.

Protecting US property is their oath.

We may take Oklahoma, but as far as the rest, it's a hard NO! We may construct a wall along our eastern border.

Democrats will take over. They will punish Texans pretty hard with regulations. I don't think Texas will survive.
