i'm totally against Paxton and most of Texas' state level politicians. but i agreed with the concept of his lawsuit.

he's a grade A scumbag and should be out of office. doesn't mean he can't be right about something.

The guy that has been under investigation in the state and by the FBI since 2015ish? Who's own assistant AG's resigned and said he was taking bribes?

Yet he's still doing the work of the people. The work no one has the chest to do. Oh and since he's still in office, must not be any evidence. So, What's your point?

What can Abbott really do?
Most people (even in Texas) do not realize that Texas' governor is among the weakest (legally, in terms of constitutional and statutory powers) in the country. It would be over-stating the matter to call the position "totally ceremonial," but not by much.

From a practical standpoint, the LTG is actually far more powerful regarding legislation, for instance.

The strength of the Texas governor lies in his ability to appoint members to the various boards and commissions that actually run things. The longer he serves, the more people responsible to him are actually wielding the power. Take Rick Perry. He held the office so long that almost every appointee in the state was one of his.

Day-to-Day? The average den mother has more power than the Governor of Texas.

I gave him some advice earlier today:

quote:

The *make Texas even better* [Abbott's words] issue that all three of y'all must vocally and publicly support is HB1359 Texas Independence Referendum Act. Speaker Phelan: Sign onto the bill as co-author; Lt. Governor Patrick: Encourage a companion bill, NOW, in the Senate; and Governor Abbott: Publicly commit to signing the legislation when it hits your desk. I expect each of you to abide by Article 1, Section 2 of the Texas Constitution: "The faith of the people of Texas stands pledged to the preservation of a republican form of government, and, subject to this limitation only, they have at all times the inalienable right to alter, reform or abolish their government in such manner as they may think expedient." Article 1, Section 1 states: "Texas is a free and independent state ... [with] the right of local self-government, unimpaired to all the States. It's no mistake that these are the first two Sections in our Texas Constitution. In Liberty and Freedom. #TEXIT

could see a scenario where the Texas National Guard is protecting the oil workers as Biden sends in federal troops. It is to that point now. This could be the even that truly sparks IT.
