t won't increase your battery's charge while you're driving, though, it will just slow the rate of running the battery down and could extend the range a bit.

Exactly
It would just reduce the drain on the battery while driving. At standstill it could reduce the amount of time needed to recharge

I know a lot pf people do but I have never spent $30k on a vehicle
it's lower than the average price of a new car in 2020.

So far as the batteries go you have hit the manufacturers talking points but...Seems they only warranty it for 1/3 what they claim.
What does the warranty have to do with expected battery life?

If you buy a new vehicle with an 8 year warranty, do you expect to have to put an entire new engine in it after 8 years? No, so why would you expect to need a new battery after the warranty runs out? Those are 2 entirely separate things and one has nothing to do with needing a replacement after the warranty is up. Not sure why you tied the 2 together when no one ever does that for gas vehicles?

I don’t own an EV, but most manufacturers offer 3yrs/50k total warranty. None of them are going to tell you that your car is going to shite the bed at 50,001 miles. And most cars won’t do that
Right, I see the 8 year warranty posted in every Tesla thread about battery replacements.

Not one of the posters who bring that up ever think they need a new car or new engine after the 3 year warranty is up, like you said.

It's just an odd thing.

I will put over 100k on a vehicle in 4 years or less...for a lot of people that is out of warranty before the car is even paid off. I would hate to get hit with a $5000-7000 bill about that time.

It's just one of my concerns
But that's more on you. It should not be a concern and truly isn't, you're just making it one. There is 0 concern about needing a new battery after 100k miles. Why don't you have concerns about needing a new engine after the same? That's the point. It's not the car's issue, it's your issue.

You also spend wayyyyyyyyy more time every year getting gas than I do charging, so you value time and money less than me. Congrats

These arguments some are making are useless lol

If a company is going to make the claim that the battery is good for 300-500k miles then they should stand by it.

That's on Tesla.

Enjoy yours. I will keep my truck.

Again, why do you keep equating warranty to battery life?

You're being entirely illogical but only towards Tesla for some reason.

That's 100%and on you. Have you ever assumed your gas vehicle will need a new engine once the warranty runs out? Why not?

Cool, no one asked you to sell your truck for a Tesla, weird thing to say.

Like I said before once before until they can make a battery that FULLY charges in 5 minutes not 80% EVs are useless to me. I'm glad you can plug your car into your wall at home and charge it in 13 hrs.

I'm pointing out the things that the average person would ask. Why does it all seem weird to you?

If Ram or Ford told me my engine would last for 500k miles but would only warranty it for 100k miles then my first instinct tells me they are full of shite. I'm not ragging on Tesla...I previously stated that it was my impression they were leading the pack.

If someone wants to give me one I'll drive it. But it's not practical for me or a lot of other average folks to purchase.

Jeeez...moving on.

ou're making an assumption that fits suburban lifestyles. City people wouldn't have access to chargers at night. And most renters wouldn't.

I'm glad you can go to the gas station and spend 10 minutes tanking up your car for $80 once a week.

Easy answer. You asked some questions, I answered them. Then you replied saying, "Thanks but i'll keep my truck"

So you basically asked me questions, I answered them, and then you pretended I was trying to get you to buy a Tesla solely because I cordially replied to your posts and answered your questions.

Correct. Again, no one tried to get you to drive one or argue that it is a practical for everyone. I certainly never did, so yea, it's odd that you keep saying things like that.

I've simply answered questions and corrected misinformation in this thread, but for some reason, that seems to have gotten you frustrated with my replies. So again, yes that is odd.

You charge it to 80% to maximize the life of the battery...

This thread is still typical Louisiana as a lot of you are not used to seeing progress. Arguing with outdated information or what you saw in a meme and acting like the billions of dollars being pumped into this tech isn't progressing the technology. If you don't like EV do not get it. If you actually want to discuss it then start with googling an EV charger map and that will negate a few posts here right away.

At their home? Because I've always had access to an EV charger on the road. It isnt any different. Plenty of videos of long road trips with these things on youtube
