31-year-old Italian citizen Salim El-Koudri drove a Citroën C3 at approximately 100 km/h along a pedestrian street, drove onto the sidewalk twice, hit eight people, and crashed into a store window.
Four ppl are in serious condition (other sources reported at least two fatalities). El-Koudri was attempted to flee, stabbing a passerby in the head, but was restrained by citizens until police arrived.
El-Koudri, of moroccan descent, is an economics graduate, unemployed, has no criminal record, but was undergoing psychiatric treatment until 2024.
Italian authorities have ruled out terrorism as a possible motive, citing "personal grievances" and possible mental health factors.
