Any teacher that participates in this should be fired immediately. The absolute best thing about living in Mississippi is that teacher's union has zero clout. Zero. I have worked in K-12 and higher education for my entire career and I have met just one teacher that is a member of the union in Mississippi.
They have a small office on State Street in Jackson that they cant keep mowed and it overjoys me to drive by it and know that they are barely functioning.

By some, sure. But a lot of those "suburban women" whose kids aren't going back are going to see him on TV advocating against this and many are going to come back to the fold.
These teachers are legitimately trying to ruin a generation of students in an effort to use their perceived leverage for personal gain.

Teachers' Unions are traditionally the most hard-core Left unions you can find anywhere.
