with 95% of donations from teachers unions going to Democrats.

In 2008, AFT provided a campaign contribution of $1,784,808.59 to Hillary Clinton. AFT also gave Barack Obama a contribution of $1,997,375.00 that same year.

Agreed, in this day and age that figure is pocket change, unions dont have nearly the power assigned to them by this board.

Unions have become front organizations for dem fundraising.

They've cheapened themselves.

Dang it

I am a member of the AFT in Tangipahoa parish. It just infuriates me to see them donate money to the democrats. The Problem is, the union has saved my neck once and its beneficial to be a member but this makes me want to reconsider or join APEL but they are probably liberal as well.

NEA is the largest teacher's union. They probably have given more

Which is why Democrats heavily favor forced membership.

But what impact could MILLIONS of dollars have on the school system? Computers, classrooms, school buses, upgrading equipment, and it just all goes to politics. And failed politicians at that. Very sad.

AFT is small potatoes in the realm of teachers unions.

A mere fraction of the amount DeVos has contributed to conservatives. I'm sure you're equally concerned that our next Secretary of Ed bought her cabinet seat

Donate to the candidates who aren't trying to frick them over. Isn't that what they all do?

If she forced here employees to contribute money used in respect of those contributions, you're damn right I am. Otherwise, this is a pathetic attempt at an analogy.

AEA (the Alabama arm of NEA) spent $20M on the 2014 Alabama elections ALONE, and did not win a single targeted election. Not one. They are seeing a mass exodus in membership now.

The problem we have with the teachers unions situation is that they truly are the only affordable way for teachers to get liability insurance. That problem needs to be addressed if teachers unions are truly going to be a thing of the past. It is a simple thing to bankrupt a teacher just because you don't like that he/she expects your little princess to act right in class.

Did they force their employees to contribute money used in respect of those contributions?

That is literally the only explanation for how someone so unqualified could be nominated for that job. So swampy

Well, as has already been discussed in this thread, AFT is small change. Teachers unions have easily given far more than DeVos' family over the years.

That said, are you really saying that Betsy DeVos = teachers' unions? In your mind, these entities are similar?
