Yeah, it was. I'm not talking about widespread policy. I'm talking about the exercise. It's old. This teacher in the OP obviously learned about the incidents in text books of college educ classes and decided to replicate it.

Could have been told to do the exercise, could have learned from a colleague, could have gotten on the internet, etc.
