You think a teacher joking around in saying should I shoot a kid is a massive overreaction?

Are you stupid?

I mean, if she said she was going to kill the kid and it was not apparent she was joking, then it wouldn't be an overreaction. In this case, it's an overreaction.

All they had to do was check out the situation, see if anyone there felt the teacher was crazy or violent and then move on. She was dumb for sending a pic of the student to anyone though. She could have joked without a pic.

Last I checked, it’s not the teachers shooting up schools. It was a private joke between adults.
Toughen up.

We are so fricked.

Dude it was a joke. In our family chat stuff like that is said all the time. Just friendly banter. Total over reaction. Charges will be dropped.

Basically photos or texts that are flagged by AI and sent to NCMEC. From there they forward the cyber tip to respective LE agencies, whom can get an IP address from the platform, then get a warrant signed by a judge to seize electronic devices

Anything we post on the clear web is being monitored and screened. The lack of situational awareness that some people have is pretty wild.

You left out a MASSIVE part of her post -- should I shoot a kid (with a water gun)

I have shot many kids with a water gun, including all of my own. No cops were ever involved. And my boss witnessed the activity on a few occasions, and and I was never terminated

So she threatened to shoot him with a water gun? Seems harmless.
There isn’t a real gun emoji anymore, so the water gun emoji gets used in reference to real ones too.

Seems like she meant it as a harmless joke, but it was incredibly stupid. Not much different than a student jokingly saying they’ll blow up the school. Even if it appears to be a joke, they’re going to get a visit from police and likely get into trouble for it.

There is no real gun emoji anymore, so the water gun emoji is often used in the same context of meaning a real one

I believe her when she said it was a joke. Arrest seems over the top

Also this is terrifying that Snapchat can do this. So say hypothetically my wife who has adhd runs out of her Adderall script and I snap a friend asking to buy a few from him is Snapchat gonna report me to the DEA?

She was getting arrested regardless saying it was never meant to be anything other than a joke does not hurt her case

Does anyone know if the charges were eventually dropped that would be my guess

However given the current state of affairs never joke about a shooting and a school just ever

My problem is why and how did they know this so quickly? Fine with and support teacher oversight, but not a fan of the surveillance state.

So? If her lawyer was present he/she would’ve told her to keep quiet and answer nothing. Which is what you’re supposed to do. You do you and see how that goes.

She spent the night in jail, they released her the next day, no charges. She did lose her job.

Sucks, but at the same time, she shouldn't have been sending pictures of her students to her boyfriend and her room mates.

It is the water gun emoji.
She asked a question.
She made an obvious joke.
If anyone here doesn't think it was a joke. Please say so, so we can all laugh at you.
