Seeing all those desperate people trying to get on a plane is sad. I can’t imagine what they are thinking about in fear.
Yep, you don't rush and fight to get a spot SITTING ON THE WING OF A PLANE, unless the situation is pretty dire.

I can’t believe how badly we botched this roll off. Some of own allies are just as screwed as we are.
I am hopeful that the people at the airport might be okay for now. It doesn’t look good, but I think their fate might be a little better than those who are still sheltering in place.

So we were just supposed to leave the Afghan Army a supply of slingshots? ok.
I'm not saying they used the stuff well. Or even at all in many cases. However, that equipment is Afghan.
Some planes shown on the tarmac earlier clearly had Afghan Air force insignia on them and people were screaming "WHY DID WE LEAVE THOSE!?!?!?"
The responses above are saying we should not have supplied them with anything at all.

The US isn't the only country right now dealing with what's happening there. Count the UK as among the other nations there....

He said it was a "very sad day" and "our thoughts are with the Afghan people". The government's priority "must be to evacuate British personnel and support staff", he added.
He said they agreed "it is critical that the international community is united in telling the Taliban that the violence must end and human rights must be protected".

That would've been a better plan.

I don't agree that we take/destroy THEIR stuff. But our Intel over the past few months HAD to have shown that many of the afghan fighters were deserting/surrendering to the Taliban. Our government has lied to us about the pull out and expectations.
We should have planned better. That's all.

We did. Then progressivism told us we were colonizers and had to leave

There are also, from reports, armed Taliban inside the airport area.

Absolutely. But that is a different subject.
The embassy should have started clearing out weeks ago as the intel told them this would happen. Instead everyone waits until there is a massive crisis.

And we wonder why the taliban is no longer afraid of the US

The 300k strong Afghan Army needed stuff.
read my post again. My comment was tongue in cheek. Check the spelling if you missed it.
That being said, I have never served so I am talking a little bit out of school.
But...that 300k army rolled over like a high school slut after 2 glasses of Boone's Farm.
They want the Taliban....we got fooled for a couple of decades. I am sure there are a lot of good folks there but it is on their head now. Deuces....
\ETA: spelling.

I'm all for leaving Afganistan, but it's like our own government didn't take anything about the Taliban seriously after 20 fricking years of being there.
The heroes of the day are the men and women on the ground and in those planes that helped evacuate people to safety. I'm still in awe at people who can stay focused on their mission in absolute chaos like that.
frick Biden and the politicians whose poor planning and cavalier attitude towards the Taliban put innocent lives in harms way.

I saw the videos and I honestly can't even imagine how bad it would be to try and hitch a ride on the outside of a military transport jet.
Reports of one of the USAF C-17s having 800+ people onboard are probably true. Which is astounding.

It does seem sort of odd that the videos are all relatively young men....no women and children

Many do not have or use twitter. The world needs to see what is happening good bad or indifferent.
Unfortunately I think Twitter is what will make this seem and feel as bad as Vietnam.
I'm talking specifically about the westerners that haven't made it to the airport and are trying to hide among the population.

Well they don't need those planes any more do they?
