I live in one of the only school districts in Birmingham metro which made the wise decision not to mask. We have around 5300 students in the district. Today it was revealed that there are 57 Covid positive students during the first week of school.
Our neighboring district has mandated masks, has 4400 students and reported 58 positive cases this week.

So more student and less cases despite no masks. Hmmm.

Conclusion: the only use for mask is to either give yourself a false sense of security and/or virtue signal. They do not prevent the spread of COVID.

Serious question, is it possible all this social distancing, mask wearing, and disinfecting has caused immune systems to be weaker? Is it possible that’s why younger people are starting to get vulnerable?

Contamination by respiratory viruses on outer surface of medical masks used by hospital healthcare workers

(2019)

Conclusion
Respiratory pathogens on the outer surface of the used medical masks may result in self-contamination. The risk is higher with longer duration of mask use (>?6?h) and with higher rates of clinical contact. Protocols on duration of mask use should specify a maximum time of continuous use, and should consider guidance in high contact settings. Viruses were isolated from the upper sections of around 10% samples, but other sections of masks may also be contaminated. HCWs should be aware of these risks in order to protect themselves and people around them.

I have a Covid positive student right now (not tested). Her mom’s doctor told us on the phone not to get tested because she’d have to quarantine for 10 days by school rules. Doc said take her back to school when she’s not symptomatic and doc will write excuses for the missed days.

Sorry for my ADHD veer off topic

Yep.
And other respiratory illnesses as well.
Fresh air is good for you.

Yeah... Hmmm...

So how do you know the student is COVID positive if the student hasn't had a test?

I think I know where you are…i have a nephew in that same district where masks are optional. I hope they don’t cave.

There was also a rinky dink test done by UF that showed masks worn by students for 8 hours were freaking nasty on the inside. Common sense really.

We tried hard to get the State legislature to reign in the powers of the governor and these health officers. I think it’s funny what’s happening in Spain Park. Since they are in Shelby County, they don’t have to wear masks while all the other Hoover Schools have to.

We are in Vestavia too. Fortunately, our kids are out of the schools now.

Our numbers came from an email. My buddy in the other district shared his with me. He’s an accountant so I trust his recollection of the key stat.

Long story short, no link.

Only way masks work is if you're wearing an N95 rated respirator (with head-straps) that is sealed air-tight on your face. Good fricking luck getting kids in school to conform to that standard for 8 straight hours.

Wearing cloth or surgical masks do nothing.

We are as well. Other district was Mt Brook. Curious what HOover and Homewood are reporting.

Vestavia.

I hope so as well. Stats like this will certainly help!

An N95 mask wont't help you either if there were a real contagious deadly airborne disease. You would need a full body suit. No exceptions.
