Friends of friends trying to get out and return to US. Only available plane tickets are 3 weeks from now. Once almost free of cases, Taiwan is now a very active hotspot. I hope they either shut down (like India did) or countries deny re-entry.

The latest Covid-19 outbreak in Taiwan is a lesson that a containment strategy aiming for zero local transmission may not be sustainable in the long term, a public health professor said Tuesday.

Before the recent explosion in cases, Taiwan had reported very few Covid infections for more than a year — and most were imported. That allowed daily activities to continue largely as normal and won the island international praise for its containment measures.

But that left Taiwan “completely susceptible” to new variants of the coronavirus that are more transmissible and potentially more severe, said Benjamin Cowling, professor and head of the epidemiology and biostatistics division at The University of Hong Kong’s School of Public Health.

Just let it run it’s course. Manage high risk pools accordingly.

This is not that hard. We made it difficult. And by we I mean the media.

Precisely!

And while there is a very significant shortage of microchips worldwide, with Taiwan being a primary source of such chips.

China loves this, and the crooked WHO is complicit.

ETA: And since we are back in the crooked WHO, the USA is complicit, too.

Maybe we should send some makeshift floating morgues over there. Although Taiwan needs to take the initiative to get the funeral pyres burning. My thoughts and prayers are with the Taiwanese people during this difficult time.

I'm not sure why someone would downvote this

TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company) is the primary chip maker for companies like AMD.

They also do contract work for Intel and NXP.

NXP (a Dutch company) is important because they make the PMIC (power management ICs) which are part of the automotive (and many other industries) shortage.
