Sweden is not a socialist paradise: In some ways it is more free market than the US

John Stossel with another quality video. 5 mins on youtube.

Did you know Sweden has a school voucher program and encourages competition between schools? And that they don’t punitively tax high income earners?

They tried pseudo-Socialism and turned away from it.

You start too many threads.

Honestly I think an EU state like Sweden makes a better case for an American state to take up some of their ideals rather than at a national level.

If a small state like Vermont or New Hampshire wanted to try socialized medicine I would say have it.

And there is no way you watched a 5 minute video in 3 minutes before your reply because it talks about the tax rate.

Dumbass.

The problem I have with this is between NYC, NYS, and federal tax, I would bet I am close to the 55% level on income tax. I also have to pay for healthcare on top of that.

If you gave me free healthcare for taxes I already pay I wouldnt have a big problem with that .

This would never happen IRL of course.

None of the Scandinavian countries have ever been socialist. All have, like the US, mixed economies. The Nordic model, also called Nordic capitalism, was a choice made by those countries so their citizens would be competitive in an increasingly international labor pool. It works well for those countries, but I think the US is too large for it to be executed well. Such a model could work if individual states deploy it, depending on how it is structured.

I said it was 5 minute youtube video and even told the reader the subject.

That’s a ‘blind link’.

They do. Denmark and Norway have minimum wages that start around 20 USD an hour. Sweden signs a minimum wage with unions, which set the hourly wage based on experience. Finland, if I recall, has something similar.

I don't entirely disagree but the context in which it'd take place in the U.S. is pretty different - an individual state would see risk pool devolution with a fricking quickness if they ever really tried it.

The video had some noteworthy points, though: Sweden is a terrific place to do business, for starters.

Anyone who knows what socialism actually is knows that Democratic socialism is a misnomer.

They are wellfare capitalists. Which is almost as bad as socialism as it combines the nanny state arm of socialism with a high as hell tax rate. Those nordic folk are smart though. After tanking their GDP they started undoing some of the welfare programs that were created too much burden for their capitalist economy.

They also have a population of ten million which is much different than 320 million and their population is white so they don't have a v=bunch of minorities fricking everything up. Just be honest about it if you want to have an honest discussion. Their system works because its few people and its white people. Its that simple.

It's not race, it's that they are more homogeneous of philosophy.

OK but that's part of a union contract. There is no minimum wage law for non-union workers.

What would that be?
Bend over, spread your cheeks and let China come in and take over social security too?
