What we did instead:

1) Have a meeting with no preconditions.

2) Cancel military exercises.

3) Legitimize Kim in the eyes of his people, with nothing to show for it. Even the haters and losers are arguing that this is only the beginning. It is the beginning, and we began by giving away very valuable propaganda and military preparedness in exchange for a promise North Korea always gives and has never followed through with.

Trump Derangement Syndrome is real.

Here lies the reason your scenario is completely ridiculous. No way they let it get that far. If he saw a civil war brewing and it was being pushed by our heavy handedness, I believe he'd go for broke. And you guys would scream that Trump's "lack of diplomacy" led us to this.

Reading FT is like a case study in insanity.

You have to be so blinded by hatred to act like this.

But oh no we have “legitimized” Kim!!!

That’s why you leverage everything you have ahead of time. Don’t isolate a sentence. He needs a trading partner. We can be that if we aren’t running around praising him and doing nothing to cut into their ties with China.

Obligatory: "YOU GOT HIM NOW!!"

Today was an enormous win for the region and the world. Why don't y'all ever just wait a minute... just - a minute to see the outcomes. You always end up falling on your face because you sling crap all over the place without having any actual facts. You're arguing with emotion, and it makes no rational sense.

I think we called the omnibus ahead of time, and there was no grand strategy there. He just folded.

You need to get that idea out of your heads. Every president could have gotten a meeting with Kim Il Sung, Kim Jong Un or Kim Jong Un. Easily.

Trump just did it, easily, by asking nothing of them that they haven’t promised before and reneged on. They’ve always wanted a meeting. Getting them to the table wasn’t the issue. Getting them to do something is. And they haven’t, and we’ve cancelled military exercises.

Riiiiiiiight. And how many in the past have shook hands w s Korea and released hostages to the US in a show of faith towards a peace process?

They always release hostages when they need something. This is not new.

Shaking hands afterwards, as I’ve said before, is weak.

Yeah, Moon has done a good job on diplomacy.

Trump hasn’t.

Yet Moon has praised the summit

Why are you ignoring the Japanese and SK reactions?
