Whereas OP is referring to category of illegal immigrants exclusively. Thus you're arguing apples to oranges.

This is a fair counterpunch. Surely, the illegal portion ( 11.1 M in the study) are a larger drain than the legal s (30M). But as a whole, they’re a net positive.

No solution will ever be perfect. You have to craft policy to have the best possible outcome, and a wall just isn’t it.

I’d like to think this were true. Maybe the Strannixes of this board have jaded me, but somehow I think that an increase in quotas from countries with brown people would be met with just as much contention as a DACA plan.

I think a much more relaxed immigration policy that allowed people to check in at the border would make illegal crossings easier to patrol and prosecute. The economic and humanitarian cost/benefit could be much better regulated than the Wild West system we have had for the past 75 years.

Would you support automatic deportation? Certainly, that would be cheaper.

Of course.

No matter how many times this keeps being repeated it doesn’t make it true. We don’t even know how many Criminal Illegal Immigrants we have here but you want to keep parroting this like it is set in stone?

I'm glad you agree. It's a shame the Democratic field wants to encourage open borders.

if they are illegal they should go.
if true legitimate asylum seekers they need their day in court.
if served in military honorably they should stay as a citizen.
i have no problem with deporting illegals.
i want my tax dollars spent for Americans.
libs should move if they dont like illegals being deported

Fair enough. But the best-researched paper I have read seems to indicate that it’s true, makes a compelling argument. It’s fair to argue that I’m more inclined to believe it because it fits my worldview where I see immigrants (some legal some maybe not) doing great work and contributing to an economy every day.

But if you’re going to complain that I keep parroting it as if it’s set in stone, shouldn’t you take a look in the mirror? It’s not exactly set in stone that illegals are nothing but a plague of economic and social woes.

Hunger is a powerful motivator. If our entitlement system wasn't contributing to our poor being fat and lazy, I suspect they would be doing many of the jobs that illegal aliens are coming here for.

They are not considering the harm that this causes to our own unskilled labor communities. If they don’t get wise soon, they will lose support of labor forever. This isn’t difficult to understand. But I feel like a lone voice in the wilderness. The democrats are really blowing a great opportunity to actually improve the system in a humane way. They just have to re-figure out why we have labor and immigration law.

If we can figure this out and revise the current unmonitored roaming about the country pending asylum hearing...we're working with something there.

Ask any Police Officer, Emergency Room Nurse, or School Teacher. They will tell you point blank the amount of resources Illegal Immigrants consume.

they're making a calculated decision to favor minority voters (potential and existing) over white dominated labor voters.

Even though I am in favor of a limited social safety net, it’s hard to argue with this. The evidence coming from Central America is pretty hard to refute. People are literally walking across a barren desert and risking their lives to have the privilege of working as laborers.

You left out the part about all the free entitlements they get for their children at the expense of the American taxpayers.

It’s amazing (disgusting) how many abled bodied men and women walk around aimlessly during the day in poor neighborhoods in South Louisiana. Many of whom are fat.

Positions on illegal immigration not withstanding, aren't you in here comparing people to turds? You can stop beating that morality drum.

I see the population with the most to lose here in the south is the non-college bound black population.

Nobody, even the study I keep referring to says that there is no cost. Specifically, the study says gen 1 immigrants cost $57B. But then it says there was a $258B net positive after gen 2 & 3.

So yes, your cop, teacher or ER responder might tell you that immigrants are a drain on their systems. They would be correct. They would also be able to take credit for a large economic benefit. Isn’t that, after all why we pay those public servants in the first place?
