Fact is, belief in God is NOT a strike against ones' intelligence....some of the most intelligent people to ever walk this planet had religious beliefs.

And very few of those people took the Bible literally. Sorry pal

They can't keep it straight and the minute something pokes a hole in their precious theory, they move the goal post and post cute little emoticons in an effort to talk over the subject...

It is quite entertaining...

It's an opinion piece.

Me.. I posted another study that was done over 30 years ago that backs up their findings.

Let's see some evidence for a talking snake for starters or for zombies.

Maybe some evidence that explains how Eve got her mitochondrial DNA (which, as we have both pointed out can only be passed on through female lines) if she was created from Adams rib

I think it is safe to assume that in 1700 more years humans wont stand a chance against whatever robots are around then.

I’m not reading this whole thread, but if you believe the story of Dust Man and Rib Woman, I’m not sure there’s anything you won’t believe. It’s scary.

You are taking the way things work in a certain time and milieu and making an unfounded extension.

There's Paschal of course.

But the poster child for religious geniuses would be Newton I think.

For example did you know Newton devoted relatively little of his life to science? But the portion he did produced...lots.

Newton was a religious fanatic. Actually he concealed his true religious beliefs, though they were Christian (I think) because he was afraid he might be burned as a heretic. I tried looking it up once, but I really didn't even understand what the issue was with his beliefs.

Anyway:

1) He spent a whole lot of his life reading the bible in excruciating detail. Also other esoteric works.

As a result of his efforts he confidently deduced the date and time of the events mentioned in Revelation.

Don't worry, it's not until 2160.

2) He was a dedicated alchemist and poisoned himself several times.

3) He was an ill tempered crank.

4) This is one guy that if anyone tells you he was actually homosexual, well it might be true.

But this is Isaac Newton, and frankly who can tell.

He apparently never noticed the fairer sex in his life. But other than a few anecdotes there's not much indication he noticed the boys much either.

5) Pretty sure he was into astrology as well. Can't remember the details on this one, but it was a different era. Even people who might cheerfully burn a witch at the stake could plausibly take astrology very seriously (as a whole lot of Europeans did).

They just rolled different back then.

6) His scientific career really only consisted of a bit in his teens to about 30 or so.

But do a search for "Newton's" this or that, and you are gonna find lots.

7) In his later years he ran the mint of England, and was a notorious martinet. During the evenings when he was at home, being a homebody crank, he would occasionally peruse a scholarly journal.

Once the Fabulous Bernoulli Brothers (my name for the two) posed a stumper math question.

Newton solved it in a couple hours, then mailed themt the solution anonymously, because it was no biggie, you know.

The Bernoullis knew it was that SOB as soon as they looked at it, even if he didn't sign it.

8) If you want a more powerful mind than this guy had, you gotta go to Gauss or Von Neuman.

And he was fanatically religious, spoke umpteen million languages (like all scholars of that period did), you know the drill.

9) Von Neuman is reported to have had a really oddball personality type as well (think Gauss was supposed to be chill though). So maybe those stereotypes of eccentric geniuses have something to them.

So you think they wrote about this 1000s of years ago and knew what researchers today are only finding out?

A few years ago I had a conversation with an atheist who whole heatedly believed in evolution. When I asked him did he believe in the big bang he said "yes 100%".

I said OK. If there was nothing before the big bang where did it get the material to create everything? Something cannot be created from nothing. He had no answer and it seemed to bother him.

He certainly did not like it when I said the "big bang" was when God said "Let there be light" and BANG...

Other universes, or alternately, there was no beginning merely an endless cycle of expansion and contraction.

This isn't new. The way the math works, there's always a proverbial Adam & Eve (and another mitochondrial Eve) - who it is can shift slightly as the population expands and contracts, but one always exists.

Yup, people are just dumb.

Every female animal on Earth is traceable (in theory) maternally to the origin of the species.

The Study is stating there was 1 couple.

What's your problem with Science sir?

I know you weren't asking me this question but I was thinking that if this study shows that humans come from 1 couple after a "catastrophic event" then this may be pointing to the great flood of Noah. Thus the couple they are talking about would be Noah. However, the "catastrophic event" could be something scientist call "big bang theory". All speculation on my part. I'm a believer of what the Bible says. I think science has a lot of catching up to do. My opinion of course.
