So you don't care if those who do live in SG see their property taxes double? Okay, makes sense, I guess.....
If they vote for it, then they deserve the consequences. I just see you come into these threads and act like a Jackass and grandstand while Sprocket just looks uninformed and I think to myself, who would I rather piss off, the ignoramus or the a-hole. I went with the a-hole.

Because they are being lied to about not needing to increase taxes for a new city.
"Link"?
Also I've provided the link to Rainey's comment that no new school taxes will be needed when they promised to build 6 new schools in SG. You're gullible enough to believe that crock.
Is it true you work for the city parish and you belong to a public employee's union? Police or fire?

I really hate to see my taxes go up. But I guess the St. George people don't care about that
People in SG are more tax conscious than those in the city are. We pay lower property taxes now because they carved out special taxing districts inside the city limits to raise taxes. They purposely left out SG for a reason.
And this business of property taxes tripling is nonsense. Much of the current taxes we pay are to BREC, the Library Board, Sheriff, Assessor, Mosquito Control and to SG Fire. There is no reason those taxes would triple.
And we currently all pay property taxes to the EBR School System for operations and construction of new buildings. That wouldn't triple either and that is a very big portion of what we pay in taxes. If more buildings are needed (they probably will be), we can determine if what we pay for new construction now is sufficient or we could decide as a group to increase our taxes,
But that will be our decision and one made knowing the new schools will result in better schools for the kids.

Send your kids to private school then. When you decided to live in BR you knew about the public school system.
I don't live in Baton Rouge. When I did live in Louisiana, I did send my kids to private school. It's a shame that when parents are zoned into shitty schools by government, the only option is to either move or fork up money for private education.
I live in TX now, and send my kids to the public school without a second thought.

Link is referring to your statements that taxes will double or triple.
Unions & city parish? I don't recall ever mentioning any of those things. And no, not even close.

Grew up in BR but moved away several years ago. Could someone give me a rough breakdown of how St George will be zoned?
Posted on 8/25/14 at 11:48 am to LSURussian
Asgard has absolutely no idea who I am. Nor is his guess remotely close.
I said double or triple... whichever one you said. Apparently double, so please provide a link or data showing where property taxes would double.

Stop believing the race baiters. EBRPSS is 85% black as of now. St.G will be nearly 50/50.
The new city of St. George would be 70 percent white, 23 percent black and 4 percent Asian, according to a study last year commissioned by the Baton Rouge Area Chamber and Baton Rouge Area Foundation. That's significantly whiter than the city of Baton Rouge, which is 55 percent black, 40 percent white and 3 percent Asian. The average household income of a St. George family would be $90,000, compared to $58,000 in the city of Baton Rouge.
If you look at the proposed city limits, it's laughable how gerrymandered it is in order to achieve their best-case demographic and socioeconomic breakdown.

The racial makeup of student age population is vastly different. For example, EBRP as a whole is 70% white, but under 18 is 50/50.

You do realize the city of BR drew the lines when they incorporated, right? StG is simply what's left.

So the SG people still don't have 18,000 signatures in spite of your claim back in May that they already did? You continue to lie about it.....

Anything at this point is conjecture. It's just people's opinions. But how can you establish the infrastructure a city needs (in large parts from scratch) and not increase taxes? It's incredibly naive. Residents would be far better off taking the extra money moving or putting their kids in private schools rather than make Louisiana look so bad in the nation's eye.
