It's rare where "more government" equals "better government" especially where there are overlapping responsibilities between governments. And that will be compounded with the city-parish unified form of government EBR has.

That's a good thing for the people of St. George.

So, what's your agenda and why should I answer your questions?

It creates a more local government for the people of St. George. That's a good thing for the people of St. George.
More government thieves are a good thing so long as they are more "local".
Got it.
Hell, why not split SG up into 10 small towns?

St. George wins in the long run either way. St. George will thrive.

It seems that St. George is only concerned with strengthening themselves

But do the supporters of St. George realize that when they weaken the city of Baton Rouge, and it's schools, that the problems Baton Rouge will face will bleed over to St. George?
it's hilarious to me that this is the best argument against St. George...that Baton Rouge can't survive without St. George.
Implicit in this argument is the acceptance that Baton Rouge has no chance at fixing the problems that are causing this movement in the first place.

Well, when more government means less BR crooked government, it means better. It's not like we'd be breaking away from a well-run government here.

And this matters why?

I live in the St. George area and I'm tired of my tax dollars being pilfered by the crooks in BR City Hall.

To prove that you are capable.

The status quo is not working for St. George. Your "smaller government" argument doesn't hold water when the "smaller government" is ineffective for St. George residents (as defined by them).

Because, presumably, they've decided to incorporate as a whole.

When this is all voted on, does the entire registered voter population of Baton Rouge get a vote?

Can you give a specific example of how your tax dollars were misappropriated?
SBR has gotten the bulk of infrastructure improvements and also pays less taxes than any of the surrounding areas. So.. please elaborate.

It gives you greater control over the people elected. It will keep a much greater portion of our money for improvements in our area. Remember when construction started on widening Jones Creek Road started right before the last election only? How's that project moving along?

St. George residents will vote on St. George incorporation.
I believe that is why Russian is so concerned. He knows it is very likely to pass. He thinks his best chance of opposing it is to spew as much nonsense as possible to muddy the waters.

LSURussian, as a well-versed opponent of the proposal, do you really feel that the supporters have no serious "white flight" agenda and this is strictly about lowering taxes and school quality (no matter how ill-informed on those subjects they may be)? Would you agree that at least SOME of the supporters (but obviously none of them being in this thread
) are motivated by race?
I believe that even Delgado opposes it in part because of the race factor - it is unsightly.

Then St. George incorporation should benefit Baton Rouge...and everyone should be happy. Right?

I believe that there are more opponents of the St. George movement that are motivated by race than supporters of the St. George movement.
Heck, one of the most vocal on this board used to refer to the black population in Baton Rouge as the plague...and his point was that the plague was going to get St. George eventually as well...if it left Baton Rouge and allowed Baton Rouge to be overcome.

Your taxes are no higher than BR, Zachary, Central, Livingston, and Ascension. Fact.
Now please back up your claim that BR is run by crooks and that your tax dollars are being squandered.

St. George residents don't need to do this...they only need to decide that incorporation is in their best interests.
