Your initial point must have whizzed by me, but I have lost interest and concede the point-- whatever it was.

Too bad about Hawking. Makes me sad.

Icons and pictures of Jesus typically depict His appearance based on what the typical person looked like in the region that made the picture. Most of the pictures and paintings that we recognize today came from Italy during the Renaissance, which is why He looks European.

It's one reason why I'm against any depictions of Jesus at all. We simply don't know what He looked like.

I’ve always found the renderings of Christ’s visage, based on the Shroud of Turin, to be particularly fascinating.

The Turin burial shroud is strange. I don't think it is the shroud Jesus was placed in the tomb with but the image imprinted on it is interesting to say the least.

Yeah, I’m not suggesting it’s the shroud either (or that it isn’t).
But the science that’s gone into testing its veracity, as well as recreating the image burned into the fibers, is compelling—if only for entertainment and discussion purposes.

Good. That shouldn't have been that difficult.

Now, explain why you think this proves your point.

Polycarp is probably the worst example you could have picked, by the way.

Complete mythology.

Thanks for looking too.

It’s a complicated situation that he put himself in. At the end of the day, my take is he just needs to worry about his faith and his children’s faith and let God do his work through her. Not much else he can do now.

Why are atheists so angry at those who believe in God?

Good question bit one that can be answered.

Atheists hate that you have peace that they cannot ever have themselves. They typically cannot emotionally tolerate that you actually believe that your existence does not end when your heart beats its last beat and your lungs draw their last breath. They have no hope for existence beyond this brief time on earth. They don't want you to have it either. Not to say that they want you to be miserable during your time on earth. They just don't want you to have what they believe to be a false peace regarding an afterlife. It aggravates them to no end that you have something, whether real of false, that they do not have. It boils down to envy. Envy breeds hatred. So, and as the scriptures told us they would, they emotionally thrash about trying to destroy the peace that God has given you. They do the bidding of Satan without even knowing that he is the source of their action. They are on a quest to ridicule and to turn that admonishment into your doubt. That is why you see them fly in to discussions about the Christian God with angry tones that they never display in other discussions. Satan wants to separate God's people from him. Vocal and angry Atheists are simply another vehicle to try and accomplish that end.

Now, the anger I speak of will show itself in the responses to follow. Just watch and learn.

The anger you’re speaking to from atheists toward theists is not driven by envy, it’s driven by frustration. I get frustrated with people who believe something so wholly (on a bad foundation of evidence), that they refuse to acknowledge other possibilities and condemn others who don’t fall in line. I get frustrated that people pretend to possess knowledge that is unknowable and judge other people for being intellectually honest enough to admit they are unsure of the origin of the universe.

I'm not sure what you're accusing me of here. Are you saying I'm making this up out of thin air on the spot, or that I'm saying stuff I've learned over my years as a Christian? "No", to the first scenario and "yeah, so?" to the second.

I don't get revelation directly from God. I have the same Bible everyone else here has access to and the same on-line sermons and books that you can access. Everything I was taught growing up I've dissected on my own as an adult to test its merit and faithfulness to the scriptures. Generally speaking, I'm what some might call "epistemologically self-conscious". Knowing what you believe and why you believe it is something that's lacking in Christendom these days, which is a travesty.
