I don’t watch late night tv. I’ll catch the occasional funny clip in the internet after the fact, but never considered myself a normal watcher.
Last night however, I caught a little of Colbert’s monologue at the start of his show.
Nothing but making fun of Trump.
I’m assuming this has been going on since the election.
I just don’t get it, it really turned me off in him. I can understand a joke or two, but it was wholly about Trump. Don’t they think people get tired of that shite?

And I would say the same if it were the other way around. What happened to people staying in their lane? Everything’s about politics now.

People always bash Fallon, but he has gone out of his way to not make the focus of his show Politics. He will make a joke here or there, but nothing like the other shows.

Late night talk shows are almost unwatchable anyway

The Colbert report was at least entertaining, I don’t like his late night stuff at all.

Colbert has an agenda like everyone else, and the harder he pushes on Trump the better his ratings get. Why would he stop?

When Colbert took the late night gig, he acknowledged that the shtick from The Colbert Report wouldn't fit with a larger audience and that he'd adjust.

Fast forward to now and he's worse.

I predict the novelty will wear off and he'll find he can't adjust adequately to prevent his firing.

So you don't and haven't watched his show except for a funny clip on youtube but after watching it once you make an assumption of what every show he does is about? Makes sense

Colbert's sister was very involved with Clinton campaign. It was orchestrated propaganda.

He's just not very clever or intelligent. I didn't realize it until recently, but that all developed from a straight guy shtick that Jon Stewart created for Steve Carell. ...who was actually intelligent and funny.

Colbert just can't keep up.

David Letterman took on a mantle from Johnny Carson and respected what Johnny had built. I think Dave grew really cynical ala Hunter S Thompson over time...and his heart issues and child later in life made him a little less worried about checking his politics at the door of the show ala Carson.

When he decided he’d pass the baton and chose Colbert, I think they had talked at length and Colbert is doing exactly what Letterman would’ve wanted IMO.

Now, having said that, CBS wrestled control of that show away from him in a major way early on. He was choking the life out of it and doing a horrible job. Look at his interview with Casey Affleck early on and you can see the off air issues spilling over into on air struggles.

CBS Brass are uberlibs and obviously so is Colbert. He won when he had Trump respond to him, and it just made him louder. Trump got the message not to feed the animals at the zoo, and it’s just making a guy like Colbert scream louder and louder.

At this point, for a guy like Stephen this will be a go-to comedic crutch until Trump’s out of office and perhaps not until a few years past will he move on. Think of it the same way Leno and the others seized on the OJ trial and rode it all the way until the end.

It’s all anyone could talk about in LA at the time...and Trump is all anyone’s in NYC in Colbert’s circle can talk about right now...so you see what you see.

Personally, he views this as a mission...i view it as laziness. It’s not interesting, original or really funny for that matter. He’s a preacher on a pulpit acting like his sermon to the choir is a comedy talk show.

Carson, Letterman and Leno always slid in some political jokes but never showed their bias in the jokes.

Late night TV is the further extension of the democratic campaign and it is sick. As if it is not worse enough that the MSM are all filled with hacks, now late night TV is...

Is his strategy to just do this thousands upon thousands of times on the hopes that eventually it will be funny? Or is it just cheap and easy banter?

I was disappointed when Carol Burnett didn't headbutt him a few nights ago on her special.

It's a niche market and he will draw a solid crowd because of it. It's disappointing but it is what it is.

I am really more disappointed by Kimmel. For years he seemed to be relatively balanced. The whole Cassidy thing did it for me.

I used to enjoy Colbert before Trump came along. Yes the man gives plenty of material for comedians to work with, but it isn’t even in good fun. It’s blatantly malicious most of the time. You have to seriously hate the president to enjoy this schtick.
