Good point about the rusting hulk in the hood.
I played there a number of times and went to many Auburn and Alabama games back when it was just a rusting hulk, before it was more of a great place to wind up dead and stuffed in a dumpster.
There was vomit refuse in the 1st generation astroturf. Plastic.

I dated a girl that attended Birmingham Southern in my 20s. She wasn’t very Christian, in the ways any male in his 20s would appreciate. Still, I don’t think Alabama should bail out the school.

Maybe the president of Birmingham southern should go buy a bunch of Russian flags and put them all around campus 
than make a hostage video claiming Putin has successful taken over the school and it is in dire need of aid to overcome the invasion. I’d guess Birmingham southern endowment would be bigger than Stanford’s by January

This is an atrocious waste of taxpayer money. BSC is an expensive PRIVATE college that happens to be in the middle of one of the worst hoods in the state.
Let it fricking die. Or make their snooty alumni pony up. But get them out of my pocket.

You are correct. A little background history may be helpful here.
On December 20, 1976, there was brutal rape and murder of a BSC coed just off campus. The BSC campus was largely open during that era.
At the time, there was talk of moving the campus to the suburbs as Birmingham’s Samford University had done in the previous decade. Yet ultimately, BSC decided to remain put and make BSC a walled and gated community.
The neighborhood has only deteriorated in the ensuing decades. Meanwhile, Samford University seems to be thriving in it’s suburban locale:

Would Birmingham Southern’s fortunes be different if it had likewise relocated it’s campus? It is an interesting hypothetical question.
