It’s a good idea . Wouldn’t be a bad idea to order 1/4 of a cow for the freezer too.

All silliness and politics aside, I do not understand why anyone with a bit of dirt available to him would NOT have a small garden. Fresh vegetables just taste SO much better than what you can buy at the store, plus it gets you outside in the sun for a bit of exercise.

Do you live in Texas? I live in Zone 8 in Texas, and I have lost my satsumas to the cold both times I have tried them. I would think that olives require a similar climate.

Like the rabbits of the gardening world. Takes about 3 weeks from seed to maturity. Plant those bad boys in succession.
Easy, fast and delicious.

I plant a row per week during the season, with a couple of different varieties per row.

Same here Buddy. Standing in long line for a short ration won't be fun; with particular people jumping line. Local Growers will be overwhelmed by demand, and given that fertilizer will likely be rationed by a Regime which seeks total control...don't count on that source.

Gonna get ugly.

You can also dehydrate many items ( I have even heard of doing ice cream but never tried that) Do it in your oven or get a dehydrator.

I buy gallon pickle jars to store a lot of things.

Dehydrating/canning/preserving/smoking/raising livestock is a lost art on the majority of my generation.

If the world ever really goes to shite, there will be a lot of hungry people.

I have read that olive trees can do OK down to about 22 degrees F., but no colder than that. I was thinking about trying to grow some trees, but it gets colder here than that.

I live just above houston.

My neighbor has had his citrus die back to the roots each year, so I bought a dwarf orange (patio orange) tree so I can bring it in in the winter. The olive tree will be a roll of the dice.

Sounds like we are in the same Zone.

I did the "patio mandarin" for a few years. Eventually, it just got to be too much effort to haul the thing to the greenhouse every year, for just a handful of fruit. I had it in something like a 30-gallon pot.

If you just want some citrus, try a Meyer Lemon. I had some luck with them "in the dirt." It is a Lemon-Orange hybrid. A bit tart, but you CAN just eat it. Makes wonderful juice.

My friend tried to start olive groves north of Orlando, I got a bottle of oil the first year and have not heard anything after… about 4yrs ago so not sure it’s viable. Had citrus the last 30 years until the fungus and sold my house.

No reason not to have a garden. Friend built me a hydroponic tower

No that would be more like Roundup. Kills all your plants AND gives you cancer as well.
