The crowd accessing the Capitol Building led to legislators withdrawing their objections.. We can debate who instigated that, but it certainly was not Trump.
I didn't say Trump did. I said the mob did.

As you've pointed out many times, until a novel case is heard, we can't know how actual law applies.
I'm talking about your analysis of how the new law defines the old law, not the legal effects of the old law.

I wonder what Special Council Smiths thoughts are on Bidens refusal to uphold existing federal laws regarding immigration? Not only has Biden refused to follow the law, he directs his departments to actively work against those laws.
All without a peep from the media or the DOJ.
He should he hung by his balls for treason.

That's why I bring up the Iraq/Patriot Act stuff. Lots of baws on here flip their preferred policies every 3-5 years, and then pretend they've always been right and the ones who didn't changed, in fact, changed

How would this realistically happen?
Mike Pence follows Trump's orders, and we're off to the races.
There was no way within existing law for Pence to challenge the particular slates of electors - each state only sent one certified slate, and so there were no competing slates. Additionally, dozens of court cases had shown no underlying fraud worth overturning an entire election.
However, even given those facts, Trump wanted Pence to overturn the election and set up a scenario in which Trump, the loser, was declared the winner in violation of our laws and Constitution.
I'm not saying it was a smart plan, or that it would have worked without massive protests in the streets over Trump's coup, but that was the plan. Same as the people entering the Capitol on Jan 6th weren't there for a street party, they were there to convince Pence to overturn a legal and lawful election so their preferred candidate would win instead of being the loser that he is.

I can always count on you to post pure, idiotic dribble from democrats think tanks.
Where they have the same amount of thought put into their discussions as SJL and her mini lecture during the eclipse.

No he didn’t. Cruz was going to object
quote:
Cruz, who is leading a group of more than a dozen senators in objecting to Electoral College results on Wednesday, is advocating for an “emergency 10-day audit” of election returns in disputed states. Because of the objection from both a senator and a congressman, the usually mostly ceremonial joint session of Congress that convenes to count and accept Electoral College votes will be put on hold as the House and Senate separately debate the objection.

You guys truly don’t understand what was going to happen.
Trump didn’t want to interrupt what Cruz was doing.

Cruz was going to object
And nothing was going to happen - the objection wouldn't have received the requisite % of votes necessary to withdraw any state's electors. Which makes sense, given that every State had properly and legally certified their elector slates.
The hope, expressed directly by Trump and his cronies many times leading up to (and after) January 6th, was that Pence would over-ride the laws and Constitution of the United States and suspend the counting of votes. This "emergency 10-day audit" was one of the illegal options discussed.
Is it that you don't understand that you're supporting a coup, or you hope other Republicans can be conned into believing that's not what it was?

lawful election
Many states broke election laws but there was “ no standing” to prosecute. All Trump wanted was to get to the bottom of the laws that were broken.
Stop reading Reddit and vomiting the “Trump wanted to overturn the election and be a dictator” nonsense. It’s embarrassing grown adults think this way.

Not in a way that was going to be reviewable or change the outcome. We had a pandemic, worsened by the actions of the Trump administration, and extraordinary measures were taken to ensure safety in the course of voting.
Live up to what your party wanted to do, and try not to support the next coup attempt from Trump.

Wrong. Also….the Wisconsin Supreme Court and the US 3rd circuit court of appeals have ruled the elections were not, in fact, lawful.

Wrong. Not a single person was charged with insurrection. You’re a complete ignorant moron that clearly doesn’t understand the law. Much less know how to look up sections of code. Not one person was charged with insurrection. You dumb idiot.
