Johnson would be a great choice.
Good guy, not ultra conservative but still pretty conservative. Well liked, never been a big time camera whore or attention seeker.
Kind of mollifies all sides and I think would do the right things once Speaker.

Watching Gaetz explain right now how McCarthy sabotaged Scalise and Jordan because he was looking for a return himself. After he was found out the tide turned and now Johnson will get it.

I’m praying they don’t frick this up. I’m originally from that district. Have heard so much good about him and have watched his wit and tact on display but he’ll need to appeal to a broader base to really get things accomplished. Let the gay shite go and set aside some of the other social values cloud and he has a long bright future..

Just chiming in here to say, that Mike Johnson has been my first choice for a while now. I went to law school with him and he has always been a sincere stand up person. We were acquaintances and have many mutual friends from college and law school days. Never heard a thing about him that would make me concerned.
My law school roommate doesn’t care for him bc he’s such a social conservative. But I like his style and the stances he’s taken, and the way that he’s taken them. All factions of the R party respect him, which like it or not, AF needs the milquetoasts and needs a person that can (gasp) talk to democrats without conceding to those communists. Everything about the dude makes me believe that he can do that.
He will be a much needed change to republican politics in the House, and will actually move legislation forward that needs to happen.
Not a showboat - but not a sneak. This is the best result we could have hoped for.

I saw this on Greenwald's twitter feed today.
quote:
We interviewed
@RepMikeJohnson
in July and - while we had several areas of serious disagreement - he's one of the smartest and most principled opponents of the US Security State (CIA/FBI) and its attempt to control online political speech (starts 21:50):

For your pregame reading I posted this last night in another thread but its some of his tweets the past few months to gove you a sense of his stances. I am 100% for him and hope he wins:

“ BREAKING: The Supreme Court has granted cert in the landmark free speech case in the digital era, Missouri v. Biden.”
This is big news.
Remember, the District Court called this “the most massive attack against free speech in United States history.”

@JoeBiden
's address to the nation tonight only confirms the urgent need for the U.S. to act in support of our great ally, Israel, as they fight against Hamas terrorists.
We must elect a Speaker so the House can take all necessary action to end Hamas forever.
——-
While action on the House Floor is stalled, constituent groups are still meeting on the Hill.
It was great to catch up with the Women for Gun Rights representatives today to discuss the safeguarding of our Second Amendment rights.

Happy Farmer's Day to all the farmers in my district & across this great nation!
From delicious crawfish & pecans to rice, corn, & soy we can't survive without-- farmers are the backbone of our economy & communities.
Thank you for keeping us all well fed.

If you are not condemning Hamas, you are condoning the actions of vile terrorists.
All Americans should unite in support of Israel and the Jewish people.
I will always stand with Israel.

This is criminal behavior and an assault on parental rights across the country.
Any organization that mutilates and sterilizes children shouldn’t receive one more penny of taxpayer dollars.
———
One thing that remains clear: The list of credible allegations that Joe Biden engaged in bribery schemes continues to grow.
The Constitution specifically lists bribery as a cause for impeachment.
We can't have a President that is bought & paid for by foreign adversaries.
——-
The ongoing strikes by hardworking Americans across the country are a direct result of one thing: “Bidenomics.”
Wages are down while the cost of living is skyrocketing. Americans cannot afford

The people of this country should feel safe when visiting our nation’s capital. Congress needs to repeal the D.C. Home Rule Act to bring law & order back to Washington.
——-
In the month of September alone, we saw record high illegal border crossings. More than 260,000 undocumented migrants entered the U.S. illegally.
It’s time the Biden Admin & my Democrat colleagues start acknowledging this crisis & supporting policy to secure the southern border.
——-
Last week, I called and chaired a hearing in my Subcommittee on the Constitution and Limited Government to examine a proposed constitutional amendment to impose term limits for Congress.
Today, we held a markup on legislation to advance the idea.
As I summarized above, this is a long overdue proposal that we should all support.
——-
This fight is about changing the way Washington works — to force an end to the reckless spending, corruption, weaponization of federal agencies, and open borders that are destroying our country's liberty, opportunity, and security.
———
Last night,
@TGowdySC
and I discussed the principal threat of AG Merrick Garland:
His failed leadership and partisan actions at DOJ have caused Americans to doubt our justice system.
———
The Biden Administration is INTENTIONALLY destroying America, and we simply don’t have the votes to stop them until we win big in ‘24.
We need everyone who cares about our country to vote & help inform & engage others.
———
I asked AG Garland very fair & important questions yesterday that he was unwilling or unable to answer.
@JudiciaryGOP
has oversight responsibility over these agencies & he is obstructing our ability to fulfill that duty.
———
AG Garland was true to form today:
*Said “he couldn't recollect" speaking to anyone @ the FBI about Hunter Biden investigations
*Dodged questions about coordinating w/ David Weiss
*Said FBI whistleblowers aren’t truthful
It’s clear why 65% of Americans don’t trust his DOJ.
———
This week,
@HouseGOP
will vote to condemn
@GovMLG
’s decision to ban concealed carry in New Mexico.
It is overtly unconstitutional, functionally useless, and will only divide Americans further.
And it begs an important question: Why isn’t the DOJ involved? [Thread]
The Governor’s order plainly violates the 2nd Amendment, restricting the constitutional rights of every New Mexican.
As America’s top law enforcement agency, one would think this is the type of issue that, regardless of politics, the DOJ would intervene in.
But they have not.
Principally, we believe the less the federal gov't is involved in state affairs, the better.
That is not the issue here. The issue is the DOJ’s selective application of justice & its clear targeting of red states for passing laws that its duly elected representatives voted for.
In 2021, the DOJ sued Georgia for passing election integrity reform.
The suit failed, and Georgia had record voter turnout just a year later.
Months later, the DOJ sued Texas over laws passed to protect unborn children.
The Supreme Court refused to intervene, and statistics show that abortions in Texas have plummeted as a result.
Earlier this year, the DOJ sued Tennessee for a ban on child sex change procedures.
The 6th Circuit rejected the suit, and it is now state law.
So why hasn’t Merrick Garland hosted a press conference or announced a federal suit into New Mexico for arbitrarily suspending the constitutional rights of its citizens?
ANSWER: Because this action serves the Administration’s stated political goals.
DOJ will sue red states for passing conservative policy, while turning a blind eye to Dem governors who unilaterally curtail constitutional rights.
They will lock up grandma for protesting abortion, but refuse to prosecute violent offenders who attack pro-life pregnancy centers.
They will prosecute Trump for allegedly mishandling classified documents, but give Biden a pass for even worse.
When we say that the DOJ has been weaponized, this is what we mean.
And we will continue to fight back

What a coup this whole situation will end up being for the State of Louisiana
When all this mess finally ends... Louisiana may end up holding both offices of Speaker of the House & House Majority Leader
Louisiana actually holding power in the federal government... a first since Zachary Taylor was President for that year & couple of months?

My RINOish Rep is behind him:
Rep. Stephanie Bice
@RepBice
Today, I will proudly cast my vote for
@RepMikeJohnson for Speaker of the House. I know Mike well and am confident that he has the ability to unite our conference and push forward a strong conservative agenda. It is time to get back to work.

Its not a knock on him that she is voting his way, but shows there might be some unity behind the scenes to vote him in. She is still a RINO, but finally listened to her constituents for a change.

Russell Long was Senate Majority Leader while Hale Boggs was House Majority Leader in the 60s, IIRC.
Didn’t control the WH but they had a ton of sway in both houses.

Please. This is how all spending bills should be passed. There is nothing that says they must be massive omnibus bills that no one can read. Fund each department separately.
