re: Speaker Johnson just announced Republicans will be introducing a CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT

Some other amendments that I would like to see:
1. A one object and germaneness rule for bills passed by Congress. I would have it copy Louisiana’s constitutional provisions. Basically, if your non-budget bill is about more than one thing, it’s unconstitutional. It also blocks legislators from adding irrelevant amendments and has teeth to be enforced (unlike our current rules).

2. Mandatory retirement age for congress/senators. If we can’t get term limits, this would be the next best thing. Cap it at 72.

3. Repeal the 19th Amendment. Return election of Senators to state legislatures with a baked in provision that creates a mechanism for legislatures to recall and remove their senators at any time.

4. Clarifying the 2nd Amendment to remove all limits on civilians owning any and all military equipment, firearms, etc. Clarifying the definition of arms as broadly as possible, and only allowing for the right to be revoked upon conviction for certain crimes until restitution and probation has finished. I would also consider a provision where by governments can only mandate an area be “gun free” if it actually has controlled access security that checks for guns (like having to go through security to enter a courthouse or airport). Private property owners can set whatever policy they want.

Some others that I am not 100% sold on, but would consider:
1. Abolishing the income tax
2. Eliminating the filibuster (or at least lowering the threshold to end it from 60 votes to 55).
3. Setting up more defined rules on how congressional districts are drawn to attempt to clamp down on gerrymandering and get more geographically concise districts that reflect natural and cultural boundaries and take the practice out of partisan hands.
4. Expanding the number of seats in the house of representatives significantly so that each representative represents fewer people.
5. Eliminate birthright citizenship for people born here to parents on tourism or education visas or on expired or non-existent visas.
6. Assign electoral votes based on congressional districts. The candidate which wins the popular vote in that state gets the two electoral votes from the Senators.
7. Give territories above a certain population threshold one voting representative in the House. Only states get senators.
8. Create some sort of mechanism and metric by which federal judges can be regularly recalled and removed by Congress for malfeasance like ignoring SCOTUS rulings on cases remanded to them or repeatedly exceeding their authority.

Just a few ideas I had this morning.

Why not take advantage, expand the Supreme Court to 15 and the federal judiciary by 25% and pack the whole system with young Republicans?

Pass that bill before midterms...as long as Republicans keep the Senate...easy peasy.

It's almost like they expect to lose the majority.

Otherwise, why would they worry?

This wont ever pass. Dims have already openly shown their corrupt face in many ways. They just dont give a crap. Sure they'll pay some lip service, but then vote it down.
