The only thing that truly scares me is asteroids and surprise nuclear war. I have a reacuring dream where I'm doing something normal outside. Mowing the yard or feeding the horses and out of nowhere I see a giant flash in the distance. I always pull out my phone while mentally trying to figure out if I have enough time to call my girlfriend and say I love you before the blast wave reaches me.

Very realistic and terrifying dream.

Ok. So it's your perception of irrationality of the person carrying. I understand. But, do you think that it is irrational therefore they shouldn't be allowed to legally for it?

Do you own a life insurance policy? It's the exact same analysis. Odds are nothing will happen to you for thirty or forty years, but you still pay to be prepared.

I don't understand why a man wouldnt take the responsibility to defend himself and his family, but a lot of folks like you live in a fantasyland where nothing bad will ever happen to you as long as you are not in the "hood."

^ This. I carry daily to protect myself and my family from possible harm. I conceal carry I do not think open carry for civilians is a good idea. Bad things happen to good innocent people all the time and my family and I are no different.

They could carry without a permit before this bill.

Needing to carry a gun is all based on perspective. Of course you are scared in public in states like Louisiana, where crime is extremely high. It goes hand in hand with high poverty areas. South Dakota passing this permitless carry is more about personal freedom than fear.

Sheep, wolves, sheep dogs

You my friend are a sheep, most who carry are sheep dogs, wolves are dangerous.

Some people are afraid but most aren't. Why should I be afraid if I have a gun?

I've never been in a serious car accident yet I wear a seatbelt. I've never had a need for a fire extinguisher yet I own one. I have never needed to use life insurance but it's there just in case. All these things average Americans have without fear. Preparedness is not necessarily done out of fear but out of a rational understanding of risk.

No, not ALL fear but it's fear based.

Oh bullshite.

Do you put on your seat belt because you have a fear of driving?..have flotation devises in your boat because you have a fear of water?..fire extinguishers in you garage because you have a fear of fire?..saw guards on your table saw because you have a fear of woodworking??

That whole line of reasoning is simply crap.

You live in the fantasyland. Making up shootout scenarios. The real chances are that you or a family member is gonna die by that weapon. I do have a gun at home even though I know the risk but I am talking about a real fear that you have of something is going to 'go down'. You have life insurance because you KNOW death is coming.

I own multiple guns, both my wife and I have CHLs and I believe you should absolutely be required to have a license to carry in public.

I grew up around guns and have used them all my life. Because of that I respect them. There's too many people I don't trust with a gun in public to agree with something like this.

My dad would be dead if he hadn't been carrying on March 12th, 2003. He was just walking with my mom in a upper middle class suburban neighborhood in broad daylight too.

You are correct.

The problem with that is there is only one time that you need a firearm. And that time is when you need it right now.

Its like being in the ocean and you fall out of the boat. You have a life preserver under the seat in the boat but it isnt doing you any good while you are floating in the ocean.

or life insurance, fire extinguisher, or jumper cables. You have to have what you need when you need it.

Do you ask the same of women who carry mace? After all, they are just trying to protect themselves and more power to them. For the ones who wish to carry a gun, they just even out the odds more so.

I've had a daughter be attacked on a school bus and when her mom showed up at the bus stop to pick her up, the same kid attacked my wife. Then there's the case of my home being broken into about four years ago. Yes, society has dictated to me that protection is relevant in being protected in today's world.

When you figure out that they are truly out to get you, it's too late to be paranoid!
