John Jefferson Williams is considered the last Union soldier to die in the Civil War to the hands of a Confederate. He died May 18th 1865 at the Battle of Palmito.

So when the South secedes again are we taking West Virginia instead of Virginia now. Virginia is a lost cause now. To think West Virginia was formed from portions of original Virginia during the Civil War.
