So, according to the follow up tweets, it seems as though it's just because it was a Federal holiday. Nobody who can process the paperwork is at work today.
Seems like they could have called someone hours ago to fix that, you know?

Yes, but they can "slow play" it and claim low staffing due to holiday, or weather etc. They can hold them overnight but they have to be out by the next day.
Its complete bullshite that these leftists are getting one last dig in at the hostages. But they have to release them by tomorrow morning. If they don't then they are are in serious violation of the law.
