Yes

No it won't. France will now have the most powerful military in history.

Well, I can confirm that it will not snap in half if you trip.
Yeah, an M16 is pretty sturdy for all the plastic components. Enough to leave a mark if you're not careful, that's for sure.

Good point
We need common sense frog control

It's ridiculous how much mythology surrounds firearms, particularly with their use in combat.
Mine jammed a lot. Haj gives 0 fricks about SPORTS.

This is the other half of the mythology of the m16. One half says its virtually a WMD, the other says it can't kill shite.
Half of the ones saying it can't kill shite tend to shoot them regularly. The other half think "full semi automatic" is fool proof.
My personal preference would be a 6.5 and 80-90 grain.

So? "Stopping power" can be an issue with any of the common infantry calibers. Sometimes it just takes more rounds. That's true of 7.62 sometimes too. The primary use for ammo in combat it to provide cover for movement by forcing the enemies to stop shooting effectively momentarily. The overwhelming majority of rounds are fired at positions or areas, not point targets. That means a lot of rounds are fired at no particular person in an effort to prevent them from occupying a particular space at a particular time. 5.56 does that better in most instances, because it is smaller and troops can carry more of them, and the effective range isn't a big problem for most engagements. Particularly when going h2h with AKs. Other weapon systems, particularly MGs and grenade launchers provide effectiveness at further ranges.
Let me say this as clearly as possible: Joes bitch about the fact that the weapon jams, especially in the desert where particles of dirt create such issues (no matter how much CLP you slather in it) and the stopping power sucks. If you feel differently, then your position is different than the vast number of Joes I have served/worked with.

Joes? Are you from 1943?
Do you call everyone Mac too?

The term is still being used.

It’s a very common term for enlisted in the army.

So, you’ve heard the screech, eh? It’s sort of a catch 22. The very thing that makes that platform more precise (close tolerances and precision milling of the bcg) is one of the reasons it jams in the sand. No room for that sand. Unlike that low-budget stamped crap the commies built. It chews through all kinds of fod.

And that’s the thing, it’s very accurate, but accuracy doesn’t matter when eleventy people are shooting less accurate AKs and your shite is jammed. Ever actually witnessed a pop no kick? It’s not a pretty sight.
If you want to own one to go drop targets at the range, great. It’s awesome for that. Take it home, disassemble it, clean it, etc. if you are looking for a weapon that is optimal for sustained fighting in an austere environment, you could do better.
That’s my weapon mythology or something...

Pretty sure the A1 was the first to have a forward assist
That's what I said . . . or meant to say, if I was unclear. I could have been more clear by saying: the M16 when first issued had no bolt forward assist mechanism. That feature was added in the A1 and all later models and variants.
PS I wonder if some of the stoppages experienced in the sand box might be explained by slight wear on some parts, rather than some design flaw. I don't know, I'm just asking. Special units would never have this issue, but, units that would be part of a larger conventional force might.
