I'll give you some more dope: dont let joe have the whole bottle of CLP, because he will do something dumb, like "slather" his bolt with it. You can and should lubricate an M4 with 3 or so drop (yes, drops) of oil. doing otherwise is retarded, and not necessary at all.

despite Joe's tendency to be an idiot, the M4 is still incredibly reliable, even in the sand, where apparently it takes Jessica Lynch levels of POG to make that system unreliable. basic maintenance, oil. 5 minutes a week, tops.

Aside from all the objective data pointing to the superiority of the AR/5.56 Round in this context, ill also throw in some anecdotal truth. i dont know a single professional soldier who dislikes the AR or the 5.56, and I don't know anyone who would take complaints of "stopping power" seriously.

there is plenty of play in service rifles. barring a catastrophic mishandling of a weapon, it functions wonderfully with basic cleaning and oil.
