So why was McCain used as a intermediary between Fusion GPS and the FBI?

So this is dossier story as I currently see it:
1. Hillary and the DNC pay Fusion GPS Russian opposition research.
2. McCain sends his lackey to England to retrieve the fake dossier.
3. McCain delivers the fake dossier to the FBI.
4. The FBI uses the fake dossier as a basis to obtain a FISA warrant (after being initially turned down) to tap Trump's wires. The FBI gets the warrant.
5. The FBI continues to pay Fusion GPS until the fake dossier is revealed by BuzzFeed.
6. Muh Russians reaches maximum rustle after Trump wins.
7. Now it's revealed that it's been the Hillary camp (Obama IC and Comey FBI) that colluded with Russians during the campaign through Fusion GPS.
Why was McCain needed? Is the explanation as simple as, McCain hates Donald and he was helping in anyway that he could to bring him down?

To provide a separation from the actual players, and to add veracity to the dossier. That way it’s not political mud slinging it’s a member of Trump’s own party and a respected war hero with tons of IC contacts to make the lie more believable to the masses.

This explains pretty much everything McCain survives for. If not for his undying hatred for Trump, he'd have resigned to live his last days in peace with his family.
McCain is more interested in a lasting legacy of "maverick' than he is in good legislation and competent leadership. To obtain the necessary cachet amongst the MSM (the ones who create the legacy) he has to become the oddball in the GOP - stopping the agenda at critical times so the MSM will devote their airtime to praising his "maverick" qualities.
I was all for him in 2000 - he was the first politician I had ever actually contributed $$$ to. I believed all the "American Hero" hype.
Since then he has been a monumental disappointment.

This part demonstrates what a complete fool McCain is. Comey already had a copy. I want to know who the republican donor was behind the funding of the dossier.

I am of the same opinion of McCain as I am Bergdahl.
Although at one point his service to our country was probably just and honest.
However, actions since then FAR outweigh any goodwill obtained through that service.
BOTH should be hung in Times Square.

Having McCain in the loop gives cover for the prog/DEM/MSM to point at the GOP as the 'colluders.' It gives them cover to ignore their own complicity - with the knowledge that under a Clinton presidency all this conflicting information would be cleansed with all the brutal efficiency of HRC's 30K corrupt e-mails.

This seems like the most plausible answer. In fact McCain has a very long history of being drug out by the media when they make the claim that "some Republicans disagree". They don't call him Maverick for nothing.

Hannity implied that McCain might have played an earlier role in creating the dossier.
Then later he got a copy from the DNC/Clinton campaign and started spreading it around. It is known that McCain is the one that was going around and showing it to people.
